Looking for a good suspension setup
Friday, May 01, 2009 9:44 PM
Okay guys, as of right now, I have riding around with those cheap $40 ebay "coilover" springs on my stock struts for about a year and a half now. When I first put them on the struts were okay, but now they are blown to the point of no return, especially since I'm riding around without bump stops. I was wondering if you guys had some opinions on what would ride good. I'm looking to replace the struts and springs all together on each wheelwell. I am looking for something that rides good and handles potholes good (atleast better than these cheap $40 ebay springs lol) but still is slammed to the ground. I was looking at getting the TEIN basic coilover kit. Is that a good choice? What would you guys recommend?

I can't have all three? If I HAD to pick one, it would be that it handles potholes good since there are tons of potholes and @!#$ty paved roads in my town.

if your looking for a good coil over setup tein is always a good choice. loads of people have had great success with the basics and the SS kits.

tein is a good choice but if you ride around with them all the way down, you're going to blow them. you will have this with any setup though.

the gravana setup allows for height and preload adjustability and may be a better option if you are looking to go low without damaging the setup.

So would you all agree that riding around on stock struts with $40 ebay "coilover springs" isn't good? What if I keep driving around on them? What will happen other then the struts blowing?

no it's not good.

blown struts can actually cause loss of control and longer braking distances.

Well I know my stock struts are on their way out the door and are getting worse every day from driving on these cheap eBay springs but I haven't really noticed any difference in handling, i.e. taking turns sharp, etc. But I can see what you mean, if you keep driving on them eventually that is what will happen.

On a side note though, what would you guys recommend for springs and struts to handle good, but still be slammed? Since the Tein basic coilover setup can't be driven slammed everywhere without blowing them, and instead of their super street coilover package, what would be another good choice? What kind of struts would you recommend, I was thinking of getting Eibach or Tein lowering springs to put on a great set of struts. I just need to know what kind of struts are durable and able to be slammed.

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
