clunk

I have a clunk in the front end that appears to occur whenever torque is applied(ie mild takeoff/stop). I have been told by a shop that it may be the control arm bushings. Since I have recently replaced everything else cause it was in poor shape I think they may be right. What do you guys think? or any other theories would be great too.

ha. i'm goin thru the same thing now. i swapped my rims to my 17's from 18's and i'm gettin that and was going to search the forum first and see what's been said. i don' think it's the bushings cuz i have the prothane bushings in already. i'm wondering if it's a loose bolt somewhere.

I swapped from 16's to 18's except mine was doing this last summer before i even touched anything. I really would like to figure this out before it breaks on me. That and its really annoying already.

Have you checked the engine or tranny mounts?

The engine mount is good . . . i have the ttr mounts . . . i will double check the lower mount but the upper mount is good. as far as the strut mounts are good and have been replaced within the last 2000 km. i am also noticing a pull to the left and am wondering if this is an alignment issue or if something deeper going on?

The condition (may) be caused by the stabilizer bar-to-suspension support brackets being out of specification. Replacement of the Stabilizer Bar Brackets is recommended to eliminate the noise associated with this condition.
The GM part number for the bracket is 22660396.

That would be for the clunk noise.

So is it just the bracket that i should replace or the whole bar? If its just the bracket I would be so much happier. How hard is it to replace? i have the gm manual so i can follow that but its still good to know how hard it is.

NO NO not the bar, just the bracket, since you're there, change the bushing too. I did it in 2003 so I don't remember, but when I changed my stabilizer bars in 2006, I remember being relatively easy to get to the bracket. Swivel extension and a ratchet will be your friend.
