Check List
Wednesday, June 17, 2009 4:15 PM
So, I want to install this stuff this weekend:

Tokico D-Specs
Eibach Sportlines
OEM's Solid Strut mounts (non coilover)

and I want to get it done in one weekend. My main concern is having everything needed to do it, BEFORE starting. As my sunfire is my only car it would be hell to have the suspension apart and realize I'm missing a tool or something. So I was just wondering what tools, hardware, etc. should I have handy when doing this?

Some people say a spring compressor is not necessary, some say it is; aside from that what do I need? I've read some threads, but like I said - I just want to make sure before starting.

Thanks for the help.

I take it you have it all already?

put it all together before even considering putting it in the car, then it's just removing bolts and re-installing them after.

yup. lol just assemble all your parts now. until your ready to install them on the car. then just pick a weekend and go to town with the install. its pretty simple install since your replacing all parts anyways

What if he wants to reinstall the bump stops and dust guards? If he doesn't get new ones, he will have to disassemble and put them on the new ones before he puts everything on. I know that's not a big deal, just something to think about before you get started.

Your car is a 97 and since you live in Cananda I am going to assume that it has seen a lot of salt and snow so one thing to make the install go easily is to have an impact wrench for breaking the strut and steering knuckle bolts loose. if you don't have that get a breaker bar and as I believe that nut is 3/4. Breaking that loose was the hardest part of the install. Like said before assemble everything and then just bolt in. I would buy new dust gaurds and bumpstops just so you know everything is new and in good shape, plus it will make the whole thing easier.

I accidentally the SHIFT LIGHT!!!!!!!!!!

The proper way of using the word seen. It is not I seen it that would be I saw it. He has seen the car is the right way to use the word. English class is Cool. By the way thats my sig

If I go to Nappa they should know exactly what I'm talking about if I ask for dust guards and bumpstops. Oh btw - I bought the strut mounts from the j-body classified via ebay, and there was just hardware - is there supposed to be instructions or is it that straight forward?

Thanks for the info

So this is what I have in terms of strut mounts:

I haven't tried to put it all together yet, I'm going to go see if I can get the dust guard and bumbstop tomorrow, but can anyone tell me how these go together? I know the more triangular mount is the front, and the larger one is the rear. Where do the plates go? and what about those larger rubber spacers? rear?

I also have 4 tiny rubber spacers - they appear to slide right over the bolts - are they for increasing height or something?

Thanks!

Just went to NAPA and got some dustcovers/bumpstops - the only had for the front though, nothing was listed for the rear - do they even make them for the rear?

should I get some front sleeves and just stick them on the back? what about bumpstops? will it do anything? Like Erma Jean said, I'm in canada, more importantly quebec w/ crazy hard winters and it will see a lot of sleet, snow, slush, salt etc. Althought with this drop I'm not sure if I'm even going to drive it in the winter.

So I was looking at some stuff because I was having some trouble figuring out how it all went together, and now I see why.
According to this page: AutoZone I don't seem to have all the parts.

My strut mounts came with what is included in the above picture, plus 4 small rubber like spacers. The Eibach springs were just the sprins, and the D-Specs were the struts with a few bolts. I bought the bumpstops and dust covers today - seem to be missing Spring Seat Upper washer (# 4 in the picture) and the top nut washer (#6 in the picture). Should the d-specs have come with that stuff? Or is something not clicking right in my head.

Ok, I feel like a jerk just keep posting, but I took a look at everything again, watched some videos and I don't feel like I have everything to put it all together outside the car.

This is everything I got from OEM Strut Mounts:

This is everything I got from NAPA today (one box had a washer, bumpstop and dustcover, the other didn't have a washer. Whats this washer for?):

Everything I got with the Eibach Sportlines:

And this is everything I got with the D-Specs: (well I'm only showing 1 of each strut, I have 2 of each)

Theses nuts and tools came with the rear struts:

Sooo....I really don't know how the strut mounts go together, but I think I'm missing rubber bushings to sit on both ends of the coils. I know which strut mounts are the front and rear, but I'm not sure about the round metal plate, the large rubber ring, and the smaller 4 rubber bushings. I also feel like I'm missing an upper plate or something to hold the coil. Do the coils just sit right against the strut mount?

Sorry if I sound like a nag or a noob. Its my first suspension job and I want to do it right.
