Why would you want your steering rack height adjustable? Bump steer is bad.

Yes bumpsteer is bad and as soon as my rack height is adjustable I can correct my excessive bumpsteer. My car bumps out so bad it comes off the one end of the gauge and wears all the tread off new tires in a hurry, and no my toe isnt out.

What have you done to your suspension? I have no bump steer...stock rack location.

The way the steering rack is designed into the subframe leaves you little to be able to adjust the rack.
I've seen drift cars move their steering rack to improve the steering capability while keeping their alignment and steering center appropriate for their type of racing.
Most of those situations have their steering rack mounted in a place other than a subframe brace and onto a firewall low in the engine bay.
This would make it easier to fab some brackets to have their steering racks adjustable depending on their ride height etc.
I'd have to have a better look again at the mounting of the steering rack on the subframe of our cars to see if this is feasible.
Anyway, good luck. I'm sure you'll find a way to approach this.

Just finished it today, get to try it on the track tommorow. should solve my mad push off teh corner since my wheels are strait in roll now.

as for what i've done to get such rediculous bumpsteer.... a lot of stuff. I've changed the caster, camber and height drastically from stock. plus a longer control arm in the right front. I've also hacked up the spindles and moved some things for better suspension geometry. Now that bump steer is sorted it should go pretty good.

Some pics of your work would be nice.
Sometimes we can get ideas this way.
Good luck.

Wow, what a diffrence bumpsteer made! I was having handling problems before and the car had a bad push and wouldnt really handle, after setting bumpsteer I was finally able to take full advantage of all my other modifications. The car flies now. I can hold off our previous track champion and pass him if i have the bottom lane, I held my own on the top of him for the majority of the race. Even after he went by I could keep with him and I still have some fine tuning to do.

I'm a little erie of posting this kind of stuff on here especially pics cause i dont know whos reading it. There are some other guys running the same car that could be following my posts on here. I only mentioned this cause i figured nobody would know what it is or have the ambition to do it. And honestly the one guy i dont like wont have the competence to do it, lol I help a few of them but i'm not telling them everything, most of them are way over weight and thats there biggest problem, anyways rambling now.

I'm pretty open over email or msn if you wanted some pics and to talk.

ill get some pics of mine we radiused the rack so it sits at an agle to solve our steering shaft issue. i should have pics tomorrow, we also wleded nuts into the subframe so the rack bolts down in basically on top of the sway bar

I just made up four plates with a slot in each one and then welded one on either side of the rack at each end. I had to make them further apart than the regular mounts so the rack would clear them when lowered and I used washers to take up the space. Also now I can move washers from front to back and vise versa to adjust my ackerman.
I didn't have any issues with my steering shaft. My frame rails (if you can call them that) are 5" off the ground so I only needed to raise the rack about an inch. Might run into steering shaft issues if I went any lower, but I'm not allowed to.

our shaft maxed out the universal joint and cause it to bind while turning to we radiused the rack to make everything work better together
