There is a 2000 Grand Am nearby and the guy is willing to part it out from what I know. The car was hit hard in the rear but everything else is perfect.
Would the control arms off this car work for me? I know there was a GP for Grand Am arms that were aluminum. Is this what they would use in the 2000 model?
Thanks
Those are not aluminum arms. The aluminum arms were ONLY on 1999 models.

Ah crap then.
Anything worth my time taking off that car?
And where can I find another GP for those, or a site that sells them with the poly bushings

No, they are stamped steel and you require the same modding that the aluminum arm do. In the end you'll just have stock J-body arms.

Well guess I will just wait for now.
Would it be good to just do poly bushings in my stock arms for now right?
people sell tinkles and john's all the time for some reason??? so if you want a set be on the look out in the classifieds.
pull the brakes and IRS out from under it. that stuff is good stuff to have.
PFFT secret cams?! pm me if you want a real upgrade.
Poly bushing in your stock arms will help.
Im wishing that i kept a set for myself instead of selling them all. Oh well.

Yeah, I don't get this. They buy it then turn around and sell it.......
most i bet like the idea but are afraid to install them?...
I purchased a set and installed them the next day I just had to pick up some ball joints. I like them I get no wheel hop when launching them on the street with the eaton, but I'm going through tires due to camber issues, I just need to get my camber plates installed but I @!#$ up the bolts holding my koni's in my strut housings so I'm waiting for replacements. Then the ground controls go on and the camber plates go on the car.
^Camber issues from the control arms? I was looking and see no way to adjust camber unless you get camber plates or camber bolts for the bottom bolts.. so i would hate to find out putting the in Control arms cause a little bit of camber in one way or the other. I have my set of aluminum ones i got from Kyle and John, sitting here with poly bushings pressed in.. ready just don't have money to buy ball joints lol
I purchased them off J to Envy who was parting out her car and once installed the tires are wearing slightly more on the insides...but I do have camber plates, and coil-overs they just won't be on the car for a while until my right thumb gets healed up so i can finish working on the car. I'm not worried about the tire wear, I have like 2 sets of old steelies to burn through before I need to worry about tires...and I have my blazer to drive as well.

yup....god only knows when thatll happen....lol.
I have seen 2 sets of our arms for sale after the GP, in both cases they were a total part out. And yes Kyle, I have the same thought you do....y didnt i keep a set??
Jeff, you should get the car aligned once you get the suspension set up. My guess that you are expiriencing camber issues because your car was setup on old/fatigued ball joints, and the new ball joints on this setup would easily cause a little negative camber....and a little camber goes a long way. Especially since if camber changed some, toe did as well with it. I am sure you will easily get everything into the specs you want when you get the new setup on and setup.
I do have a couple tricks up my sleeve for the next batch of control arms I have done though.
But Steve, there is no concerns about camber being out of spec with the control arms. they are dimensionally the same as J-body control arms. But as with any suspension component, you want to get an alignment after swapping them out. You shouldn't need any type of aftermarket camber adjustment on an otherwise stock setup.
To the OP, poly bushings are a nice upgrade, and also welding up the seams of the arms is another popular option.
The only control arm I would bother installing beyond the alum. N-body would be a full real moly tube CA with all heims....RK @!#$ up when they tried to bring it back to the stock holders. That was the stupidest design in the world.

^^SMG's control arms aren't aluminum. Just stock Jbody arms that are seam welded, powdercoated, the ball joints are swapped out with greasable units, and the small factory rivets are removed and replace with 1/2 hardened hardware.
