hey guys i have dspecs and sportlines with less then 10k on them and ever since i put them in when i hit a bump it slams in the front like the suspension bottoms out. i know dspecs have a drop rate of 1.75 but i contacted tokico rep and he said they could handle the drop no problem thats just a spec for people to see. i talked to a gm tech and found out there was a TSB (technical service bulletin. if you dont know) that was a different strut mount for the front with a different top nut for the strut. now i got new mounts with my suspension too so im wondering if anyone has tried these upgraded mounts with aftermarket suspension. any help would be appreciated it sucks lowering your car the right way and still having problems
so wait you have new strut mounts now?
am going to install d-specs & road magnets on my 2005 and use my factory strut mounts.. think i will run into problems?
If you're doing anything to your suspension and haven't changed strut mounts, you definitely should. With road magnets, you may get some clunking, but it would be from the spring itself. You might want to put some tubing around some coils to reduce it. Changing the strut mounts is always a good idea though.

The clunking is your new stock strut mounts being shot. They cant handle the d-specs and sportlines. I have the same setup. They'll be ok for a few hundred miles, but then they will go to hell and be shot. If you wanna get rid of the clunking you'd have to change out the mounts like once every couple weeks. OR, you can get a performance solid mount that OEM makes. Gonna cost you a pretty penny, but its gonna take a lot to make that solid steel mount go bad on ya.
"You can only feed them semen for so long before their legs fall off."
thanks man that helps but blows at the same time lol
Use pre 00 strut mounts and your clunking will go away. The D-Specs do not fit correct with the 00+ front mounts.
I've always wondered that. What's the different between the pre 00 mounts?

I dont recall what was different between them but the D-Specs fit the pre 00 mounts perfect and have play on the 00+ mounts. My buddies Cav had the clunk issue till he swaped to pre 00 mounts and now its quiet. I went straight to pre 00 mounts when i did mine. I have never had a single clunk from mine. Every 00+ mount that I have been around clunked to some degree with the D-Specs.
where do you get tubing to wrap the road magnets in or is this unnecessary if i get pre 00 strut mounts?

I have D-Specs and Sportlines for several thousands of miles now with no clunking at all. I purchased stock mounts at pepboys for $20 each, not one issue and they fit perfect. I would prefer marks (OEM) strut mounts though.

what year mounts did you ask for?
am doing d-specs + road magnets (wrapping springs in tubing)..
I have the 00+ Monroe mounts with my d-specs and have no noise or clunking at all
Dan, I thought you said after a couple hundred miles you had clunking and such?

I have personaly seen 3 vehicles with D-Specs and 00+ mounts clunk and you could see that the shaft did not have a firm fit/grip on the mount. You can half ass repair it with hardened washers but its only a temp fix. One of them just recently switched to pre 00 mounts and no more clunk. Not every vehicle is going to have an issue but I have yet to see a pre 00 mount/d-spec combo clunk.
im running on my original stock 03 mounts with over 124,000 miles on them with no issues thou im sure i could use replacements

The clunking was my from the strut mounts GM replaced under warranty (4 times). Now that I am out of warranty, I just picked up 03 to 05 front mounts. The clunk in the rear ended up being my exhaust hitting the trailing arm, not the rear mounts.
