The clunks still there...
Saturday, September 19, 2009 10:16 PM
Well I had a nasty clunk, I figured it was probably strut mounts/struts. I was gathering parts to lower the car so I just left it be. Well after lowering the car with new struts and mounts it was gone for about half a day. It sounds like its coming from the front end the bulk of the time, but also sometimes the rear. I was thinking it could be my exhaust. Any ideas?

you should have looked into this before doing any suspension work. if it's clunking, you need to figure out where from. big difference between an exhaust clunk and strut mount/spring clunk. my case was a strut mount was squeaking after i did my suspension. you never know though, so pay attention where the noise is coming from and try and inspect your assembly and condition of parts.

Like I said I thought I had it pinpointed to the strut mounts. I discovered on Sunday that my exhaust tip is hitting off my bumper, so I do think it is the exhaust.

I get the same thing on front of my cavy. I have fixed outer tie rods. I am gonna try my inner ones now. I here mine on accel and deccel. And when turning. Struts n mounts seem to be ok as well as motor mounts. I dont even have alterted suspension.

I am wrong new struts and still have the noise. I noticed the other day with vehicle in park and rocking back in forth i can hear the noise just as well. guy at alignment shop said it was struts. Put new in and still have the same noise. I even checked exhaust to see if it was hitting underside of car. Nothing.

Popping Noise While Turning?
Replacement of the Stabilizer Bar Brackets is recommended to eliminate the noise associated with this condition.
The part number for the bracket is 22660396.
It is worth a try.
