well damn, YES or NO?
Friday, January 08, 2010 1:02 PM
I've gotten both yes and no answers to this. I stripped the adjusting bolt on my RK Sport coilovers (not full street ones).
Can I simply buy a cheap eBay coilover kit as long is it's 3" diameter and replace the threaded collar/sleeve part?

I tried going through rksport.com but they are very slow and I need this asap.

those are ground control coilovers made by eibach. contact them directly.

That adjustment bolt will come out with a reverse drill bit and a lot of patience. It's a fairly common type of bolt, too. You can get them at Home Depot.

trust me i tried, that's how i got the other one out. this last one is just doomed. the hole is stripped itself so getting a new bolt is pointless.

ok so option 1: go through ground control/eibach, option 2: can i go through eBay universal coilovers?

I have used eBay sleeves with RK coilovers. Yes the RK Sport Ground Control clones.

So to answer your question directly, that should not be a problem. The issue that I'm sure you experienced is the same I did, a steel set screw in an aluminum collar + corrosion = failure.

i would be willing to bet eibach owns some stock though....

What kind of engine mounts are you using? The same thing happened to mine on my old cav, the screw stripped out right after I put on a TTR upper mount, I thought it was coincidence but it wasn't, as soon as I went back to stock mount the screw came out no problem.

Same problem for me. Try the motor mount.

I have contacted Ground Control and they said:

"Looks like the coil over kit you have is a not a Ground Control Coil Over Kit. You will have to contact the original manufacture for parts.
Sorry I forgot mention it is against our policy to sell our parts to fit other kits."

-- what BS is this, can somebody give me a link to an eBay coilover kit and I can just use the sleeves off that??

Yes corrosion is the bi*ch here.

Would never think that would cause any problems... I had stock mounts with these and they are off the car now so no solution there.

Yes....I love how you steal the sig. I actually nominated you for JBO DBOTY cause of it....cause really that is such a douchy move ya know. Unfortunately you lost, but I have high hopes for you in '10....I'm sure you will pull off the win.

Anyway, good luck with that motor mount that attacks all your sensors and such.....damn, and now your suspension too huh? Geeez, talk about a bad buy eh?

i got all 3 adjusted without a problem, the last one was just in there that no impact gun/drill could handle. how/why am not sure since i bought these used. it doesn't help that it got driven through 6 months of winter either. i used AGXs with these.
