Just recently developed a problem HELP
Monday, January 11, 2010 11:11 PM
earlier this summer I found out I busted a control arm bolt. Well I finally got around to getting the old bolt out and put another one in and got the alignment done. Well I started noticing my steering was jerking like it did when that bolt broke. so I pulled it in my garage today and jacked up the front end and checked both drivers side and passangers side for worn ball joints and tierod ends and low and behold I could see that same bolt was allowing movement of my control arm. My car is a 99 chevy cavalier z24 with 17" rims and lowered with tein Coilover suspension. Anby idea's on what might be causeing this bolt to snap?

Having the bolt broken for 6 months while the arm was banging around loose probobally @!#$ up the subframe or the arm. Figure out which is @!#$ up and replace it.

Yeah, I wasn't driving it all summer. I discovered it after about 2 months of it being broken orginally. I know during the winter last year I smashed it off the ground really hard but I looked at it and didn't find any problems. until it chewed the tires off so I figured it was just an alignment issue and I went to get it aligned and new tires put on and they found the busted bolt. so i parked the car and finally got the broken bolt out and replaced and then it happened agian. just now So I'm gonna guess it is my subframe because I bent up the rad to subframe support pretty good when I bottomed out. Thanks for the help!

I had the same problem happen to me and i had a shop put in a longer bolt and a nut and it fixed the problem. Thats only if yours is the one were the control arm goes in to the subframe, that was the bolt that was broke on mine.
