Goldline springs wearing out?
Tuesday, January 19, 2010 7:05 PM
Quick question here....

I bought some goldlines used several years ago (4 years ago or so) and have put around 60K on them now. My front struts mounts are in need of replacement, but my mechanic told me that I need new springs as well. He told me that there is a chance that they could snap. They do have corrosion on them, with most if not all of the yellow coating missing. I guess my question is if anyone else has had this happen to them.

As a side note, my mechanic also said that one of my D-specs need to be replaced...I haven't heard of anyone needing one replaced, but I do travel from new york to ohio via Pennsylvania during the winter sooo I hit some bumps.

Just trying to get some opinions before I go and buy a new set of springs (I would most likely go a set of prolines).

Thanks,
Kevin

If your the original buyer of the tokicos you might be able to get one through warranty.

Well it seems like tokico will give me at least one new strut, so thats good news.

The Goldline issue may be resolved with just a set of prolines. If I'm going to have everything apart, I guess now is the time.

Anyone else have problems with Goldlines?

No problems here and no rusting (except a small amount where the coils were touching and wore away the coating), had them 6 years.

Yeah I had one of the front Goldlines break on my Cavalier. It snapped off about 1-2 inches of the top coil. They had around 4-5 years of driving on it in all weather (winters included) and was rusting out pretty bad. The yellow coating was pretty much gone of all the springs.

Not sure if it's normal or not. I just replaced them with some Sportlines and have not looked back.

It sounds to me like thats where mine are heading.....
I live in Cleveland, Ohio, and we get a ton of lake effect snow which = a ton of salt.
I am thinking that I do'nt want to have any problems with these things, and I think I may just put some Prolines on. Maybe soften the ride, not drop it as much.

Thanks for the info.
