Drums wont stay adjusted
Tuesday, February 02, 2010 10:51 AM
I have a problem with my buddies 96 z24. The rear drums wont adjusted. After about two days after doing the brake job the parking brake wont hold the car. We have inspected all the hardware on the brakes which were new from the last brake job. Everything looks perfect. I adjusted the brakes at the time of the brake job and now they are unadjusted. If anyone has an idea please let me know thanks!

Did you put the adjusters on the wrong sides? If so they will loosen up like you're describing.

does driving in reverse at about 20 and slamming on the brakes get them back into adjustment temporarily?

I've got the same prob with my beater. Hate it, only way I can get comfort in braking for a few weeks at a time is take the drums off and ruff up the pads with a bit of sandpaper. Then sand the insides of the drums to get any high spots off or rust and put it all back together.
