Eibach Pro Kit - Rear Springs
Friday, April 02, 2010 10:50 PM
Hello,

Anybody had difficulty with the rear springs on the Pro kit? I switched from goldines to the pro kit, and rear end seems very loose. I stiffened my Dpsecs, but it didn't completely eliminate the problem. The problem is when I go over curbs, and large loading and unloading sequences, the springs almost sound like they are re-seating every time. I had my goldlines in upside-down (Tight coils up top) so I don't know if that is a problem as well. The mount may be molded for a tighter spring up top.

At low speeds the rear creaks over small bumps, but I think that the years of goldine use in northeast ohio may have ruined them.

Bottom line, just asking to see if anyone has had the same issue. I was thinking of adding rubber on the bottom of the spring where it bears upon the shock for a possible remediation.

I didn't have time to do this myself so I had someone else do it, so I don't know how well the install process went. However, he is a very good mechanic.

Thanks,
Kevin

The bottom of the spring perch on your rear struts should have a rubber pad that is shaped to conform to the spring and help retain it while offering some cushioning of the spring from noises.
Also, you'll have to have a spring pad on the top of the spring to help with cushioning the spring from metal to metal wear.

Good luck with it.
And if anybody can verify that having the spring in an upside down position would have an effect. My only thinking would be that the diameter of the ends of the spring would be different making it one way only for installation.

Funny, we meet in two places.. hahah

I couldn't find a part number on the rear rubber pads on the bottom. I assume anything could go in the top between the coils? Maybe having them upside down makes them fit tighter? If you have a part number for the bottom rubber pads that'd be great.

Hit the auto parts store and ask for rubber spring cushions for your struts.
They have universal units that should fit if you bring an example of the size you have or have an idea of the size you need.
Good luck.
