Are there any shocks that don’t require cutting of OEM shocks?
Tuesday, July 06, 2010 4:26 PM
Just jumping back into the J-body stuff again after a few years as I am giving the twin charged car to my sister since it;s been sitting for almost 2 years now and I want to take the coilovers off and put something a bit softer/smoother on it.

I remember way back when I bought a set of Koni Yellows, I had to cut my OEM shocks/struts and slide the Koni's into them. Are there any companies that offer a complete replacement shock/strut for the J-body's?

Also since I have been out of the Jbody world for a while now, I am looking for any suggestions on a Shock/Spring combo that gives a nice look as well as a soft and smooth ride since she isnt into racing at all and it already has 1" front & rear sway bars.

This is currently what I am looking at, but would rather a complete shock set up that doesn’t require cutting up an OEM shock.

Koni Yellows/Springs Sport Kit (1" front & 1.75" rear)

blue car (R.I.P) - 240whp @7psi..
silver car - 305whp 315lbs.tq @15psi (91 Octane) or 420whp & 425lbs.TQ @20psi (94 octane+Alcohol Injection)
All dynos run on a Mustang dyno

Tokico D-specs are direct replacement lowering shocks
Springs are going to be dependant on your bumpers and what clearance you have..
so then there is always all the coilover options, Tein Basics, Tein SuperStreets, STD R3, Ground Control with Dspecs.

Full replacement. IMO if you want a full replacement strut these would be the best. Over all though Koni are still a bit better.

The one in my sig is old. It was my first twin charged sunfire that go totaled. But I live in Calgary (Canada).
