Me and another guy in my shop class want to make one for our cars as a final project. We are looking for what kind of material is used to make them. We have aluminum (definately will not use) and cold rolled steel available to us. If needed, we can order the correct type of steel needed but that would cost us money and the shop metal is free.
If anyone knows what Ractive, Vibrant, RSM, RK Sport and OEM uses please let me know.
Thanks

Hell yes!
Essentially the only forces on the bar are compression and tension, which both aluminum and titianium do rather well. You will have to make your mounting plates rather thick if you make them from aluminum though, since they don't do as well with bending forces. That's why most aftermarket companies use 1/8" steel plate for the mounts and an aluminum I beam for the bar. But solid one piece bars are always better.
Also, make a couple spots for it to connect to the firewall like the vert bar, just make sure to triangulate the firewall mounts or they will be useless.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.
