I have a very crappy ebay coilover sleeves and various brands of struts on my car. I need something reliable for daily driving yet can still give me an aggressive stance and good handling. So I am going to purchase Tein Basics, I've heard great things about them.
I was wondering.. if anyone is running this set-up if they could give me some insight on them
Which mounts can I use with them (from searching I found most people run 03-05 mounts.. why?) Do the stock rubber (03-05) mounts have a good contact point on the spring for rotation?
How low is the safest drop I can run them (pictures would be nice if anyone had them but not neccessary) .. and do they still ride nice at this height?
Do I need to use a spring compressor to put the mounts on.. or are the springs small enough that it is not neccessary?
And last but not least, who is a trustworthy vendor to buy these from.. I was looking at raceinspired, are they reliable?

Order them from APlusPerfomance. That's where i ordered my Tein SuperStreets from. You have to personally call Jason(website has been down for a while), but i havent heard of anyone having a problem with him(me included).

The lowest drop you can run is when you're lower A arms are parallel to the ground in the front and whatever you want in the rear so long as the shocks dont bottom out (ie you for sure cannot run them all the way low).

does anyone have a pic of basics as low as you can run them and still drive able?
the factory set height is just about the right ride height, it can go lower but it @!#$ up your suspension geometry, this is what the lowest you can safely drive at looks like.

i have a very hard time believing thats the lowest you can go lol, everyone goes lower than that with coilovers, thats half the point
my lca's are actually slightly below parallel with the ground at that point and lower and it would mess up the roll center and hurt performance.

Not everyone buys them for the performance aspect. You can dump them you just have to be careful not to hit major pot holes because they still can bottom out.

then whats the point? for only a few hundred dollars more you could just go bagged and be super stupid low. bags are for going low, coil-over are for going fast (around corners).

Bags ride terrible and are terrible unreliable. Id ride dumped on coilovers before even thinking about bags.
Not many of the slammed truck guys seem to have major problems with bags and supposedly the newer bag systems (like in the last 3 years) ride and handle much better than the older systems.

Id still trust a solid coilover versus air though. Theres no pump up time, no leaky connections, better ride.
Even if you dump them there is still the option of lifting the car back up for AutoX, I doubt many people will tell you that J-Body air systems do well in the handling dept.

I disagree. Low pressures make for a softer ride. Higher pressures simulate a higher spring rate, so handling is better then stock. Reliability is great if you buy quality components and take the time to install everything correctly. I commuted all summer 2hrs a day with not a single problem. I've also had ground controls with konis, drop zone springs on stock struts, drop zone springs on konis, and tein s techs with konis. I would say the handling was best with konis and s techs, but the ride quality is very simular and better then the dropzones.
S-techs and Konis are nothing compared to Teins. Sorry but theyre not. Ride in a Tein equipped car and youll believe me.
well a properly setup tein car. I had my set totally wrong to begin with. I got some adjusting of the damping done on the auto-x course and its already better but still needs more work, and I still havent gotten around to corner weighting it yet.

I agree 110% and back this up!!! My car is on s-techs and koni yellows. I thought i had decent ride quality and improved handling (best of both worlds), then I rode in strat81's car equipped with Tein ss coilovers. The care rode NICER than mine and he had it tuned somewhat aggressively, and his car is measurably lower than mine! The car will outperform mine in every aspect of handling (he autocrosses regularly) Your not going to get that ride/handling combo on any lowering spring/strut combo.

wow. thats pretty impressive. I've been looking into those since tinkles posted about them in his thread, but its so hard to get rid of the air. I was hoping they would ride as nice as the s techs did. I'm shocked that its actually better. If I go back to a standard suspension, i'll have to try them out.
