To all that run coilovers on their j's, this is a question for those sitting low. What set up do you run how low are you sitting and on what size tire and wheel(pics would be great) i just lowerd my 2001 cavi on GC and kyb's but seems to be that i have very little shock movement left.is this common? I want to be low low with out air (my truck is bagged fun yes) so is their any mods i can do to get low?
gc's and kybs are gonna net you blown struts. kyb's aren't meant to handle more that 1.5" drop.
you're going to lose travel if you drop the car way down. the only way to avoid this is to go with either gravana's or std's as they have seperate adjustments for ride height and spring preload. tein ss coilovers have a shorter shock to help accomodate the lower stance but none of these are a sleeve type on a factory style strut.
yeah i only had them on for a days drive then raised it up to where its slightly lowered. what would be a good tire/wheel size best for a slammed dd? i have a set of motigi ff7 17's with a 205 40 17 tire. So which coilovers are best for a slammed dd? thanks for the info
I think D specs and Konis are the usual to pair up with Ground Controls.
I'm running Koni Reds w. GC's, on factory z24 rims, 205/55/16 tire. I'm lowered about 2" all the way around right now, plenty more room to drop. I'm more than happy with the combination of ride quality/response at this ride height. I have my dampening set about 3/4 of the way to full dampening.
Hopefully before the weekend I'm gonna drop it more and see how it handles. If you want something really slammed, and still retain ride quality, I would suggest looking into STDs. They're pricey, but well worth every penny. Even slammed as far as they'll go, the ride is much more comfortable than stock, and handles amazingly.
Like the ride man lookin good, thanks ill look into the std's sounds right up my ally.Yeah yhe GC ride okay but i want slammed so i think the GC's are gonna go up for sale as soon as i get the new coilover set up. thanks for the pic gives me an idea now
part of the issue is likely the fact that you have the wrong size tires on your 17's. 215/45's or 225/45's are the proper size for a 17" wheel on a j-body.
Gc coilovers and koni reds. fronts all the way down. rear 3/4s down.
18x8 riverside trafficstar stm with 38mm off set in front and 35mm in rear
Yeah i was looking at putting 45's on them. i plan on doing a nice slammed dd with slight hp increase and a nice interior. but i want a ride quality thats great for dd, i live in florida so our roads are pretty flat so i want low and comfortable, when its time to actually start the build i will post progress pics, thanks for all the input keep them coming
i have always loved your car man looks killer thanks for the pic hows the ride quality?
my ride is just fine. but i rub even at slight when turning left.. my right front tire rubs on the METAL inner fender. i dont have fender liners.
forgot to mention im using 225/40/18 for tires.
nice i love it how tall is that tire wheel package? how low are you from the road to the bottom?
its pretty close to stock for height but width is another story. being the wheel is 8" wide compated to 6.5 stock
