Lowest static drop
Saturday, October 23, 2010 10:40 AM
I am trying to figure out what coilover set up will allow me to get the lowest static drop. Ride quality isin't an issue. I have a sunfire on air ride and dont want to go that route with my cavalier, but I want a similar height. I have searched and, it seems that ground controls get pretty low but im not sure if its low enough, or if i can get something that will go lower? I havent decided on a wheel and tire size yet but I have a set of 18x7 and a set of 18x8s and was thinging of running the 18x8s with a 205/40/18.

STDs can get pretty low.

its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

Going that low really meses up the suspension geometry. You may want to consider custom A-Arms to correct roll center and bumpsteer.

Considering it was never driven that way, I highly doubt it.

Yah when I first installed them, went fully dropped and raised all 4 sides evenly to make sure the car would sit level.

std's allow you to go the lowest. Only problem up front is you'll need to cut out body work because your wheel will hit the inner upper fender (FRONT)

That's what fender rollers are for

I'm gonna need to pick up some coil overs pretty soon here...

How about the B&G RS2 adjustable Coilovers, adjustments for damper length and spring perch height. Can touch the floor with these.

Phil is talking about the upper apron / or upper frame rail. There is a pinch weld that joins the two pieces of the apron that hangs down. So he is talking about cutting that pinchweld out and that would give you about another 1/2" to go down till your rubbing the actual apron. You may be able to bend it back with some flat jaw locking pliers to get it moving evenly then just tap it the rest of the way with a hammer, but it may be pretty hard to do and or could actually dent the apron instead of moving the pinch weld any. if you cut it though you may have a hole or crack where the flange is gone so you will want to either spot weld in a piece of flat steel across it, or if the crack is small enough just spot weld the crack closed. Or you could tub it like phil is saying if you want even more clearance

the B&G suspension is/was the gravana tuning power grip coilovers. they have double ride height adjustability, but do not have front pillow ball mounts.

STD R3 coilovers also have double ride height adjustability, but come with a front pillowball mount, which IMO makes them better.
also cheaper

but dont come with a rear mount at all so... where's the trade off for price?

honestly, im a fan of the tein ss's all the way. not only do you get the option for the EDFC, you also get solid rear mounts. but.. you DONT get dual adjustability.

where the hell is scott when we need him? he spent the $3 grand or whatever stupid price for the KW variants.... are THEY they best? we dont even know.. lol

I haven't been able to find any STD coil overs anywhere. I'm looking for new suspension and these are my top choice as of now. I'm not going to be buying them off some guy who doesn't frequent this site or have a web store.

PM Qwibby and ask him then. Im 99% sure he got them through Benham.
