struts question.
Tuesday, November 09, 2010 2:43 PM
I have an 01 z24 5 speed with almsot 231,000 miles on it and still has the original struts & everything. I did put on the front strut bar few months back and the rear one last week. other than that its all original from the factory.

I'm looking into getting all 4 new KYB struts. but I hear all kind sof stuff about replacing the strut mounts & bolts even.

Should I worry about everything? or just replacing the struts be good?
I havent messed with suspension too seriously on these cars yet.
Thank you.

Rear strut mounts don't last very long for most people, if you have a sound like lumber rolling around in your trunk over bumps, that's your strut mounts.
If you're going through the trouble of replacing the struts.... it's not too much more to do the mounts, just shop around for them... check out advance auto parts coupons, they keep having 40% off going on. Amazon.com has some awesome deals sometimes too.
Insulators (just rubber for the spring to sit on to prevent noise...) is pretty cheap too, if yours are deteriorated.
I really don't have much opinion on if you need springs and all that stuff..... not sure how long they last and if they really sag all that much.
I've never heard of having to replace the bolts.... there's not really that many and if you get the strut mounts, it comes with new nuts and bolts normally, as should the strut come with a new nut for the shaft, which covers most of what is involved with swapping new struts.....

Thank you! I saw strut mounts for like 40-50 each, outrageous! guess shopping around will do best. I thought the mounts would be smart but nothing else, the plastic springy looking things look fine.
