rear shock noise and there new
Monday, November 15, 2010 7:00 AM
i have this noise like a squeak coming from my rear when i go in reverse, at 1st i thought it was the rear wheel bearings but this weekend after inspecting it the wheel bearing and drum brakes they are fine. i noticed i was able to make the noise when i was raising the car up with the jack.

i had purchased KYB struts and spring all in one kit from carquest back in june 2010 and they seem to be the culperate. i dont know if i should return them or leave it alone they seem to work just make a noise when i go in reverse. maybe the bolts arent tight? i dont know any ideas?

Did you even change out the strut mounts when you put on the new springs and shocks?
You trailing arm bushings could be the culprits too but shocks may do this until they're broke in so make sure that everything it tight and to speck.
Go from there.

i let a mechanic install the struts i did see it it seemed to me like the kit came with the mount already it wasnt soft though it was hard. is the mount soppose to be rubbery?

i will try to do a video of the noise and all.

i took a picture of the rear strut mount area from the inside, my question is where i have the red arrow, is that the strut mount? (these are the new KYB strut kit i bought recently)

Yes, that's the mount. And yes, it is supposed to be hard. It just has a thin coating over the metal.
How many miles have you put on these new struts, and are you 100% positive that you have new mounts?

yes there new i saw the old ones when i went to the shop and these were nice and shinny new black strut kit.

i have put 7,400 miles on them and changed them April 30 2010.

so ok i do have a mount, i will look to see what is causing the noise. like i said last time when i jack the car up you can dupicate the noise i hear when i go in reverse.

I am really tired of these KYB front struts and rear they make so much noise when I go thru like speed bumps or go in reverse, im taking them back to the mech and see if he will warranty them and get me new ones installed. Problem is they work fine just make noise and hope I wont have to have a battle with him about how they work and that’s all that matters, I just cant stand the noise.

Lift protective plastic boot, and try shooting a little WD-40 or HD Silicon on the shaft.

Lift up where the red one is pointing. You'll see a metal shaft... shoot at the base and shaft. Also since you're there, shoot at the top and bottom of the spring bases (where springs rests) too.
