I've glanced at a few of the swap topics, but I haven't been seriously considering doing anything until just recently.
My rear brake drums are super old and rusty rusty rusty. They squeal horribly at low speeds, even with new shoes. So I'm considering just getting a new set of drums/shoes/springs in the rear. But I understand that can be expensive. If I'm looking into getting it done anyway, would I be that far away from doing a simple disc swap (as far as money spent)?
I did the rear swap on my car. I spent about 111.88 for new rotors and brake pads, for all the backing plate and everything for the conversion I payed 109.00 off ebay. Cost me 120 dollars to get everything machines at a machine shop. So in all of that I have 340.88 all wrapped into just that. I did a few other things but thats about all you need for the conversion. It looks much better than the drum brake if you have rims. It took a little bit of time but I used a video that I found on here and did everything from it.

I did my entire back brakes on my cav with drums and pads for 80 bucks, it pays if you can do it yourself. 17 dollars per drum and pads were something like 35 bucks.

Only thing I didnt do myself was the machining. Everything else I did myself. If your going for a good look and better braking the conversion is the way to go. But if your not looking to spend much money. Then your better off to get just the drums and pads.

340 for the whole swap wow! its a pretty simple swap to do under 150 if you get junky calipers and rebuild them you dont "need" ss lines for it or anything higher end , machining i can have a local guy do for 60 and just low end rotors and pads till you can afford better
Yea i could have went cheaper on some stuff. But I chose not too.

me and my dad were going to do the swap but it was gonna cost more money than just to get new drums, shoes and springs... all told i paid $80 for the new drums, shoes and springs, even for new calipers for the fronts i only paid $25 at napa man i love getting a discount there...
No i have nothing to say about doing it right the first time but still for a basic swap thats a pretty penny. Im doing a full daytona rear swap with the vented rotors and its costing around that including ss lines and what not.
Yea I agree.. I could have went cheaper, but I got braided steel lines, I didnt have to rebuild my calipers. I also got drill and slotted rotors.

I paid $90 for the brackets and calipers that didnt need rebuilt. $80 for d/s rotors and $50 for ceramic pads. $30 for lines and fittings.
Thats $250 for everything. I did the machining my self on my drill press. May not be 100% perfect, but damn close.
