So I recently bought a 2005 (119,000 miles) base cavalier for 4 grand out the door. Engine runs great and looks absolutely brand new. Only a few problems, odometer light is out, CD changer wont take my CDs, think my rear defroster doesn't work, and the suspension is soft as hell.
Now the other things can wait as I'm on a budget, but the suspension is a must fix. Turning around corners at slow speed puts the car into a complete pitch and maneuvering SAFELY at highway speeds is dicey as well.
I'm not really interested in upgrading and modifying the car "yet" I just want the stiffest, smoothest ride for my money. After some initial pricing I can get the KYB GR-2's for around $200 dollars for the strut replacements. Has anyone used these, what has been your experience, and if you have a better suggestion (for about the same money) let me hear it!

GR2's are a great stock replacement, personally bet bang for your buck is D-Specs, drop in fit, adjustable, and can handle a drop for the future. AGX's will also handle a lowering spring down the road and are adjustable.
Ok, now where is the best place to buy them, GR-2s, AGXs, D-specs. Anywhere cheaper in particular? Coupon codes for some sites?

this. I just put on some D-specs with the eibach pro-kit springs and the ride is very good, with no roll during cornering. i would highly recommend them, but i didn't buy mine from a store

Hp's are the same as the dspecs i use to run except they are non adjustable. very good struts. Can handle lowering springs to.
I have the hp, so and I love them. Cheap to boot. Just don't get them with m2 springs. They suck and check your stabilizer links cause if you are leaning that much they may be broken.
Have you considered sway bars as well? Made a huge difference in my car.
Well I may be kinda picky as I was driving an 87 944 turbo before the cavy and its still one of the best handling cars of all time lol. I did a quick visual inspection of the suspension the other day and the mounts, springs, dust covers, bushings, and that cross bar in the rear looked good. I just think the struts are past their life span and aren't up to the job anymore.
