Hi I have had my cavalier 4 door for over 2 years now and still haven't modded anything but changed the headlights to HID. Recently I was told my from suspension needs completely replaced because it's worn all to crap and my question is should I replace it stock or just lower the whole car with a new lowering kit? The reason this is such a hard question for me is that I live in the boondocks/deep country where there is horrible roads. I never drive on unpaved roads but there are many potholes. I hate the way the cav looks though with that almost 5 inch gap between the rear tire. I also have stock 14's on the wheels. I'd love to have the car lowered but I have no clue where to begin or what kit seems to be the best because I have looked at every kit and all guarantee it's the best.. Any Idea's or Suggestions? They would be much appreciated.
For your situation, i say not slammed, but deffinately lowered...mine is dropped about 2 inches on Eibach springs and i love the look of it. Dont get me wrong, i would love a slammed car, but i just cant handle that avoiding every little bump, going 2mph over train tracks...not worth it IMO
here is a pic of my car lowered..only side pic i could find, about 1.75 inch gap in front and about 2 inch gap in the back
thats 2" lol sorry i forget our cars have like a 6-9" wheel gap lol..
i say AGX and eibach prokits.
I live my tein ss's they ride great for being slammed and in winter I can lift the car up. They were pricey but well worth it. I think I saw some koni reds and ground controls for like $350 in the classifieds. That should be a sweet adjustable setup.
I agree 95LsCoupe, it would get annoying going 2nph over these railway tracks that are everywhere lol. I have found that stock setup will cost around $200 for the complete front suspension. How much would it take for the "right" lowering kit? I'm tight on money and couldn't go over $400. Is it too rough lowered? Or is it a better ride? Sorry I have so many questions, I'm just very new with the whole lowering concept.. Thanks everyone for the quick replies however
Im lowered on Sportlines and D-Specs if I remember correctly that kit goes for like $800 with all new components but I bought used cause Im a cheap bastard.
Id say the ride is noticeably stiffer over hard bumps and tends to bounce a bit more than stock but I do have a lot of dampening I can take out still. Ive gotten used to it but everyone who rides with me bitches.
I think the look and extra feeling of stability on the highway is worth it, but everyone is different.
I really dont find myself creeping over tracks or anything like that. Youll learn really quickly which places will be too angled for your car. The only place Ive found so far is the driveway leading to my roommates brothers apartment and even stock height cars scrape there.
Also I feel like my car sits lower than 95lscoupes even though we should have a similar drop.

how in the sin is that 2 inches? I was on Goldlines with my old sunfire and it was WAY lower than what you have. either you don't have the sportlines, or you got told they were when really, it was the prokit.

Agreed, that looks like the prokit
I heard that the Tokico HP Blues & Eibach Pro-Kit Springs are the best way to go? Anyone have any opinions on that?
Also is it necessary to buy both? could I just buy the tokico HP blues and not the springs and still get the lowered look? Just wondering cuz OMG they are expensive lol

Yes get the whole kit. The shocks alone wont lower your car. You stated "OMG they are expensive" so my reply is that when getting aftermarket parts you cant cheap out on ESPECIALLY SUSPENSION. Supension is one of your cars most needed components that has to be done correctly. Personally I love my Tein basic kit and dont even care about the price tag. You have to pay to play in the car tuning scene. If you can drive well then a good drop shouldnt affect you much. 95lscoupe is full of poop. At least you didnt mention cutting the stock springs so you get props for that. Lol
Thanks man, I appreciate it. I'll eventually save up for a good kit
dpecs and sportlines.! or AGX and prokits. call it a day. i rarely go at any angles, only on steep driveways or entrances. speed bumps psshhh i take it straight on lol. only thing bent under my car as of right now is the front tow hook. if your worried about potholes, all you have to do is learn where they're located and avoid them. after summer if my droptop is still with me i will be going lower! lol
Shut up and buy your tuner kit back!
I may have dirt road rallied my cavy with dunlop starspecs and tein ssp's. I dont have bottoming issues with the ssp's set as low as you should go.
