I KNOW I KNOW search, I am in a rush tho. I have a done a small search and read about a fuse i can pull to disable my abs.
Anyways 1999 Cavalier 2.2 5-speed. The abs light is always on in my car, and if its not as soon as i start driving it will come on, or if i turn the wheel. If the abs light OFF the brakes done work properly, the car just wont stop. With the abs light ON and the abs not engaged the brakes work fine. Now just today my light stopped turning off. The brakes work but the problem is at slow speeds like parking your car you will go to brake and nothing is there, the car just does not stop. I just need to disable my abs pull the fuse. I checked my fuse panel on the dash, drivers side there. No abs fuse. I didnt have time to check under the hood as it was raining, but i know there is a fuse panel/relay box under the hood. Would it be there and is the fuse all i need to pull to disable the abs and get that damn light on till i can fix it?

Sounds like you have more problems than ABS. Possibly low on fluid, or a bad master cylinder. Get it fixed before you do anything else. The ABS won't cause it to not stop.

Its not that it doesn't stop, it still stops. The master is fine and so is the fluid level.
So hard to get just an answer on forums these days.

really going to make me repeat myself to get it into your head?!?!?! You need to clarify what is exactly going on with the car. Does it stop or not??? It can't do both at the same time. Like I said before, the ABS will not cause it to not stop, especially if it is not engaging like you said. You have other problems. But if you insist, go ahead and pull your ABS relay. Its underhood.

If the ABS kicks in at low speed you will stop, but not very fast. It was a big problem on some GM trucks. I almost put a few through the shop door at the dealer I worked at.

ok, so i'm now confused. does the pedal go hard? does it just go to the floor like there's a hole in the line? you say it doesnt stop, but then you say it stops... then you say its not that it doesn't stop, but it doesnt stop... i'll throw my hat in the ring as bad/dirty wheel speed sensor or power booster.

Yes, the fuse is in the box under the hood.
But I agree with everyone else... if your pedal is going to the floor and you have no brakes.. that is not the ABS at fault.

and just so i can clarify with everyone i have working brakes, the ABS system is @!#$, wheel speed sensor needs to be changed, and abs fixed or just removed completely.
There is no problem with my brakes minus GM's @!#$ty ass ABS system.

Because up until yesterday i could get the light to come on. I just wanted to clarify that pulling the fuse will do the job that I want.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to disagree. A couple years ago my ABS put me half way through a couple intersections. Checked and replaced all the sensors as well as paying a Tech to diagnose for 4 hours and no problems were found. I deleted the ABS and haven't had a problem since.
New ABS works, 10 year old econocar ABS is @!#$ dangerous.
Pull the fuse, put a piece of tape over the light and enjoy the peace of mind that the car isn't going to try to kill you.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

Except for the fact that he said the abs wasn't engaging. Then he couldn't decide if it stops or not....

I wasn't debating his situation, I was debating your claim that ABS won't cause it to not stop.
Paying someone to install parts and bragging about it being fast, is like watching someone bang your wife and being proud to raise their kids.

It won't cause the vehicle to NOT stop, if it is NOT engaging like he claimed in his first post. Now if it IS engaging, of course it could affect stopping distances. I was just going with what he said in his first post.

dude serious go to the wrecker and get a speed sensor it takes like 5 minutes to change and 5 bucks stop being a cheap douche and just fix your car. hell i have a 5 speed sensor here

I know what he's talking about it happened on my DD. The sensor is good and has been replaced however they get touchy when they get a little surface rust or dirt. So sometimes they work sometimes they don't sometimes a normal drive will get it to come on and off. It gets very annoying and I guess some cars are just worse then others. But yea having it kick on while pulling in a parking spot that was enough for me I pulled my fuse under the dash and said the hell with it.

ABS does not take data from your speed sensor in the transmission, it takes it separately from each wheel speed sensor at each wheel. Even then it isn't always as easy as a wheel speed sensor, I had 4 brand new ones before I gave up on the whole thing.
