I swear i am hearing a rattle/clunk coming from the rear of my car. I cant remember if it was there before or not. I do have most of my interior out. the passenger and backseats are both out.
I hear this noise when im running down the road at about 30 mph and hit cracks in the road. But if i inflate my bags to 100psi the sound goes away. I am sure that all the nuts are as tight as they will go. i dont know what else it could be.
i know my stereo is going back in tomorrow, and the seats by thursday. The problem is that if it is the struts i will have to rip my subs and amps back out again.
Is this a real problem or am i paranoid. I thought it might be the seatbelt retractors or the new 6x9's rattling a little.
any ideas? all help is appreciated.
I think im getting the same rattling noise you're getting. But, it seems as if everytime I tighten up the bolts in the rears (the big one in the middle) it goes away, then it comes back. My guess is that I need to use some loctite on them and tighten them down a lot and they should stay and cause the noise to go away.
I went out and looked at the car again. Could it be the bars that make the X pattern from the trunk hinges doing it? I used loctite but must not have tightened it enough at install. mine has not backed off since the second tightening.
I just cant figure out why it goes away at 100psi on the rear bags.
i think it's 'cause your adding more air to the suspension 'causeing more of a cusion for the ride... there fore, most of the vibrations from the road are obsorbed in the bags, vs. the car.
...
Welcome to the wonderful world of easystreet air struts, if you live near them take your car in so they can finally get a fix for all of us!!!!!

I will try and tighten that bolt as well on friday when i work on the car.
phatcub - i thought you were having problems with the front. I didnt know you were having that in back as well.
anyone having any luck on whether its something in the rear deck making the noise or the actual strut? I checked the heim joint bolt and it is tight as I can get it.
Is there a wrong way to put the heim joint bolt into the strut? could I have messed up there?
theres really no way you can mess up putting that bolt through because it only goes in one way. am i the only one with camber problems in the front? my car turns weird as well, i think because of the camber.
im pretty sure its the actual strut...i had a noise coming from my left rear one until i took it out and swapped in my coilovers for the winter
i'll be making a trip down there to have them looked at unless they want me to take it to one of their dealers in toronto and have them look at it

well i got to looking some more tonight after riding halfway in the trunk while my friend drove i think i may have found something.
I can feel it through the floor of the trunk. It feels like the rear trailing arm assebly may be hitting my exhaust or something of the sort. the thud seems strongest right in front of the spare tire well between there and the back seat.
i talked to jeff at airlift and he told me that they have some new hardware for the rear assembly but we have to drill the hole in the bracket to 1" in diameter to make it work. I dont know if this would help my problem out or not.
does this info sound anything more like anyone elses problem?
on the bottom of the rear strut it has that hemi (sp?) joint at the bottom that the bolt goes through. tighten the joint, that was my problem

do you mean the bolt that goes through the heim joint? I tried yesterday with no luck. maybe i will try that again.
any exhaust clunking from anyone?
i had my exhaust rebent over the axle to get it completely out of the way...it was sittin on the rear brake lines when it was all the way down so glad i got it redone
other than that i cant think if anything that would be hitting anything

where did you go to have it rebent? just any muffler shop
when i felt by the rear axle the exhaust seemed pretty close. I wonder if thats whats making the noise then. The exhaust would explain why i get the noise at 60 psi in the back but the noise disappears at higher psi. Im just running out of options and its starting to get frustrating. My stereo is waiting on this problem to be solved.
is anyone running 14" steelies on their car with bags during the winter. It sounds like on big bumps my strut is bottoming out. but it could be the exhaust hitting harder as well.
I think im going to lose my mind here pretty soon. LOL
any muffler shop could do that for you
it didnt get rid of the noise i get from the left rear strut. so im assuming that its the strut making the noise in my car...dont know if the thing is blown or what but you can hear it at every bump or dip in the road

you know i had the problem with the exhaust hitting my rear trailing arm so i fixed but i still had the rattle... do you have your spare tire in?? that lil thing that you screw into that on the top of that bracket was my problem.. i pinched it with a pair of pliars and wrapped a rag around it until i could get my spare and all my carpets and stuff put back in... try that..
i dont have a spare tire well
so im pretty sure in my car it is only the strut making that noise...theres nothin else back there that could be doing it
