Well just as it sayes, has anyone ever tubbed the wheelwells out to lay on a larger rim/tire combo? The back is the easy part, cut it out and fit in a trailer fender tub in. The front is what has me wondering, I have never seen a fwd tubbed out to lay on a larger tire. Im sure you could do it, i dont see why not.... the unibody structure would just have to reinforced where the metal was cut out.
Anyone have any pics of this?
i think what they do is get a wide front end. look at karo's slowfire. hes got a one piece front end which is way wider than stock.

Land Pirate---That wide front end has nothing to do with ruinning a taller tire and still being able to lay out.
THe problem that the J has up front is how the top of the tire rest on the frame when the air is let out of the bags or rods.
Now I beat the crap out of mine and I can drop down and not rub with a 215/45-17.
But if you want to run 19" rims your going to need more room.
Ive seen some front wheel drives that simply had the bulky inner fenders removed and in there place had some tubing welding in to mount the top of the strut to.

Well if your taking your bags off.... any chance you would want to sell the front struts cheap?

ohhh.... and what about the strut assembly itself? Will the strut assembly be able to compress enough to still layout on the taller tire? I dont want to go and cut everything out for clearence with the tire, just to have the strut bottom out on itself before the car is able to layout.
ESB - when your laidout, and your tire is touching the inner fender.... do you know if the strut has any more travel left in it or no?

I was allready thinking about how i could bodydrop her car, but one..... i didnt want to get in to modifing the whole front suspenion with the upper strut mounts and all, and second its her daily driver... and theres no way in hell shes gettin my truck to drive around while im working on her car.

Well first of all. THat laid out cavy DOES NOT use the same front struts that are made for our cars. Because the ones made for us will not compress low enough. Ive talked witht he guy a couple times when I had to order some parts. It has sleeve type bag struts up front now.
RIght now Ive cut and beat up enough crap that my front will drop down and the tires DO NOT touch the frame. SO if you cut out more stuff to fit a taller tire all you will do is actualy raise the car up some because the strut is bottomed out already.
You would need to raise the upper strut mount location.
WHich means cutting a hole in the hood (ive already got big nipples on mine) or molding some bubbles in it.
The only J ive seen lay the front on the ground had 205/40-17s or something along those lines. To tiny IMO. Looked funny.
And I cant make up my mind about removing my bags. One day I want them the next I dont. Maybe once I get a truck and its ready to get bagged I may take them off.

yeah i see that, he removed the entire front strut purch, and is now using a shock wave for the lift.. nice
See thats what im talking about, i dont want to have to remove that uppper strut mount. I just want to be able to get the car as low as possible and still have some clearance... so it can be driven slammed and not be rubbing the tires.
Those pics also show that he did cut the factory structure above the wheels, but it looks like he just left it all cut out since the tubular frame is whats holding the front of the car up and not those towers. I would just have to box them back in for strenght. the setup he has in the rear is considered a canti lever setup.... thats a nice simple setup that gets a good amount of lift im sure.
I can roll all the way down up front but the tires still rub the lips of the fenders.
My rims press the fenders out every time i drop down.

Check out this link. This guy has done a lot of work. its on juice so that will make for it to go lower. But he still did a lot of work to front end. Might try getting a hold of him and see what hey says.

thats pretty sweet. i like how he did the engine bay, but not sure if the sheet metal on each side is just for looks, or if he removed most of the structure under there for clearence though...
I'm not real sure what was done. I sent him a message a while back asking him but I didn't get a responce. I would love to know more about it though.
