you dont need it, all you need is a socket and a wrench to get the bolt off
that what i was thinking baggedcavi. i did my whole Koni install, the "special" tools i used were a Dremmel, and a spring compressor.
i didnt even use a compressor
But its recomended

Hmmmm.
Most of the time you dont need that but it would be very nice to have. For me anyway. I do alot of suspension jobs and Ive had some very stuborn struts that wouldnt allow the nut to come off without spinning the shaft. Even when using an impact.
Many times ive had to cover the shaft in rubber and put on vise grips to stop shaft from spinning.

If you HAVE to have the right tool for every job, then sure. I just used a couple of crescent wrenches, worked like a charm.

How did you get a cresent wrench on the front strut bolt? Its sunk down and you can only get to it with a socket.

if you and to help avoid the stuck nut, at least it worked for me. i took the breaker bar and gave it a good half turn while everything was still on the car, that way all i had to do was turn, the car hold the rest in place for me
, on and older car this might not be enough rusty components an all. maybe hit it with some WD-40 and let it sit for a few minutes.
OH thats just on the rear. Yeah I do it like that in the rear. ( <---that sounds naughty )

And to answer the question about this tool. No it is a 15mm socket. Koni's, AGX are 22mm and stock are 21mm in the front.
BTW - Does anyone know how to get the nut off without removing the entire assembly or using an impact? Oh and for some god awful reason I can't find this tool for the j-bodies. Everyone has it for everyone else, but not the J's. Kragen, autozone, pepboys, Lisle corp makes most of these tools any I can't seem to find the correct sized one. If I had it I wouldn't need to take off the whole strut assembly.
Need to put on those ?@#$ spacers to stop the noises (You know, the ones KYB doesn't tell you about in their instructions or give you unless you read their minds). Had shop down the road spray with lube and then hit it with an impact and it didn't come off just a little (And they broke the #$@% adjuster cause I forgot to tell them to be remove it). Same shop that put them on too. He said he can pull them off and put them in his compressor and hold the shaft and try to pop it off. I'd like to handle it myself though. I told him they should be around 52 ft lbs, then I asked him how they torqued them down and he said his assistant did it. (IE his assistant put the impact on it and held the trigger till his arms couldn't hold any more)
Will compressing the spring make it easier to remove the nut?
