Wheel bearings
Friday, April 29, 2005 5:26 AM
Just a question about wheel bearings.
I am going to be putting on a new set of Powerslot rotors on my car and since I have 80k miles on my car I want to put new bearings in them.
Does anyone have opinions as to whether there is a better bearing or are they just about all the same.
Thanks in advance.

Bill

Timken's are my favorite.

I really wouldn't bother replacing them untill they go bad though. It only takes about 30-45 minutes to change the bearing.

Timkens are good. I just installed 2 new ones in front. But i think one is bad already or i installed it wrong since i was in a hurry and the damn mosquitos were bothering me. The one i took my time on is much better, while the opposing side is giving my car serious wheel svibs now instead of the other side before.

paying for an oem one will be more than anything normally.

wheel bearings can be gotten the same places that any other autoparts are gotten. local autoparts stores.

all the chain stores like pepboys, autozone, shuck cragen checkers, advance auto parts etc. carry em

its a common a part as oil filters really.

as of yet unless you get a HD bearing from mantapart which i believe is modded from another car, they are all oem replacement.

basically like kyb gr2 and all the other oem replacement struts. different names, same performance.

Timkens come with some seals that the OEM ones do not, and a one year warranty. Wheel bearings from the dealer cost about $150 and Timkens can be had from autozone for about $70.

yeah the stock ones did have em so i didnt use em on the new ones. all the bearings i;ve replaced on peoples cars we fully sealed, so there never was a need...

oh and you will need a t55 torx bit.

I just replaced mine with some detroit bearing co. bearings spindle. $50 a piece from murreys with a lifetime warranty. And there VERY easy to do.
