Hey guys,
I got an 03' sunfire and I was in process of installing my reactive strut tower bar when I tightned the bolt to hard and snapped it off. So I'm running with 2 bolts on the passenger side strut. Is this safe???
Thanks in advance guys
no! time to get some new mounts
see ya!
those top bolts only require 20ft lbs of torque
for future refference of course
ive been riding my driver side strut like that for almost 9 months with no problems, but i wouldnt reccomend it. i bought new mounts this past weekend

...and I'm guessing new mounts would require dissambley of the strut......oh well, guess it's time to lower.
to put on new strut mounts, you just need the new mounts and a set of spring compressers
no need for new springs or taking apart the strut
but hell, if youre gonna take all that out, you may as well get some springs and struts to lower it!

I have a similar issue. I somehow could not get that bolt to go in straight on my passenger side. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't get the thread in the mount to line up with the hole in the body. I ended up trying to force it to go in and the thing is screwed in crooked now - might have messed up the threads.
Has anyone seen this before? Could it be a defective mount with the thread not placed correctly? It's a Monroe pre-2000 style.

If you're gonna go through all the disassembly just lower it. You won't hate yourself when you're done

if you had your strut assembly out, it it possible to bolt it back up without the bolt hole lining up properly... i've stripped out two strut mounts before figuring out that there is some play when bolting the top of the strut back into the strut tower. just make sure you don't torque down the two nuts before you get the bolt started and you should have no problems...

like most said...true.
but if you do lower it, dont half arse it and go cheap, especially on stock struts... else you will be doing it YET again.
