Word to the wise...don't ever work on your car in a hurry when you're changing strut/spring setups. I just had the blonde moment of blonde moments...I accidently forgot to compress the spring before removing the top nut...good news is...the front springs don't compress much, cuz it jumped maybe 6" and that was the end of the drama...so, I'm taking a 15 minute break before I go finish the car
lol lucky it wasnt a stock spring. that could of done some damage
blah i do it all the time just aim at someone you dont like

actually it was a stock spring...
Put a jack under the A-arm assembly when the car is on jack stands in front on one side. Jack it up so there is tension on the assembly like it would be on the ground, remove the top nut while its on the car and then let the jack holding the A-arm up and it will uncompress itself. When it comes down, no need for a compressor....
.. But i HIGHLY reccomend you use a compressor if your not experienced with working on suspensions. I drove 30 miles to the shop and couldn't get ahold of one so we used the alternative method.
funny thing is, this is like the 4th time I've lowered my own car, not to mention several friends of mine I've assisted...
Everyone has their moments....
Last year, when I was farking around with my bags- I removed all my lugnuts on 1 wheel before I even realized I never jacked the car up.

i usually have someone hold the spring , and undo the top nut
granted with both look away and hold the parts at arms length
the front are the only side reall under any real tension , the rears barely move
Ok, I'm staying away from Rodimus when he is working on a car... never know what you might have come flying at you.
lol am im the sucker that went out and bought a spring compressor. eh i got them for 25 bucks at sears. good thing i work on suspensions alot and i can use them on friends cars
I dont even use compressors on J-body springs anymore..... Just push down on the top-hat, while someone uses an impact to back the top nut off. The only time I need the compressor, is to put the stock springs back on the struts..... Im just not fat enough to compress it that last 1/4 inch.
Get some pics up Paul.

You should be more worried about ripping a couple threads off at the end, especially you're not using air tools, there's a ton of preassure on just a couple threads.
