Flanged Bearing or Spherical Bearing?

trying to figure out what other terms there are for this type of bearing when its already mounted on a plate.

<img src="http://tein.com/img/pupper2.gif">

tein lists em as pillow ball. others list em as spherical bearings. i already know the correct tech term is spherical bearing.

and some are mounted bearings, but dont swivel 360 degrees. basically just a bearing mounted, like on the hub assebly.

flanged bearings usually produce the same, but different flange styles....

technically if i get an UNMOUNTED one, how safe would it be to weld it to a plate? wouldnt damage occur to the bearing itself? something i suspect and would wanna avoid.

worst comes to worst, i;ll buy a upper mount set from ground control and fab a plate up for my car.

Hi Art. I heard something about this "spherical bearings" long time ago.

About the name, I think that is the best name, I mean spherical one based in it function. To give you an idea, thing in a "human knee".

About welding it, I think that is a bad idea. Or you can use some kind of special low heat soldering equipment or try machine it to adapt the other part you need. Generally, this bearings have very tight tolerances that can be lost after the heat produced by common arc soldering machines.

Regards,

yeah welding wouldnt be good , most are sealed bearings , and the heat will melt the greas out , and it will loose some of its viscositiy

also the welding will cause some warpage

best it to machine the area and press in the bearing

^not if you are good with a tig it could be done! but not with a mig

see ya!

Yeah if you go HERE, they refer to them as mounted bearings.

thanx for the link. i have a few like that, but when i called they are saying that those only offer rotational movement. like an axle going through there. doesnt allow swivel movment.

eliot and eric, thanx on the info. "spherical bearing" still havin decent luck finding parts, but just gotta make sure they arent "hobby quality" i figured welding prob wouldnt be that great of an idea. i know of some places that can tig, but its still taking a chance.

on pressing it in somewhere, how much stress you figure it could take. i;ve seen some of the bearings only which have a groove in em. and you can use the freeze one heat the other method for a tight tolerance, but def trying to make this as safe and sturdy as possible as this will repace the mount completely.

but the more i look at the picture posted above, it looks as if its pressed in from underneath.

gotta do more research on this.
