ok i found these coil overs on aplusperformance.com and i dont really understand how they work...
do i just put them where my springs go and then how do i lower and highten them please help here is the link to the coilovers:
LINKY
there are only TWO sleeve coilover setups that are meant for our cars.... ONLY TWO
dropzone is not one of them....
you should look into ground control's or rk sport's coilovers, which are around 300-400 dollars
on top of the fact that coilovers on stock struts is a bad idea, a very bad idea.
how coilovers work:

i'm not sure why i'm compelled to write this, as i'm probably wasting my time. i was thinking about letting this one slide, hoping you'd buy them and realize what kind of mistake you made.....
either way, good luck

sleeve coilovers?
what do you mean on stock struts ok i have no knowledge of a cars suspension
i know that theres a pole that has a base on it and the spring sits on that but i dotn understand...
and how come they say they are for a 97 cavalier
ok the "POLE" you speak of is the strut... If you do coilovers you need to get something that performs better than stock i.e. konis, agx, etc. and stock means "from the factory" the coilover takes the place of the stock spring. does this make sense?
the coilover is a universal design that is why it says its for your car, it is not designed specifically for the j-body..
im done explaing
those coilovers you linked us to are considering "sleeve" type coilovers
sleeve coilovers are placed onto a strut, where as coilover packages have a strut which has a threaded body. sleeve's are the threaded body i just spoke of. the threaded body allows you to adjust how high or low the spring sits, allowing you to make your car closer to the ground, or vice versa.

look at the red part - sleeve
look at the goldish part- spring perch
look at the bright yellow part- strut
spring- durr
what i mean by stock struts are the struts that come from the factory (OEM). our stock struts can't handle coilovers, for two reasons. 1: spring rates on coilovers are WAY higher and 2: the lowering of the car.
and if you want some coilovers for a really good deal i'm sure you can find some on ebay for like 30 dollars and i can be CERTAIN they'll say they're for a 97 cavalier. remember, you get what you pay for. on top of that, there are many on this site that have made the mistake of buying cheap suspension parts. i'm sure a few will make an appearance in this thread to try and set you straight.
ps, there's an FAQ at the top of this forum... it takes some time to read, but i think you'll learn a lot

agreed. its explained very well in the faq about everything you need to know when lowering a car
I have those Rk Sport Coilovers they are speaking of, brand new.. took them out of the box to look at them thats it. Of course Im not selling them for $300, nor am i $200... Let me know if your interested
i know wat all of that stuff is and i know wat stock means
i just dont understand exactly what a coil over is..
is it a spring with something to make it adjust if it is then why cant i just buy those and put them on...
can i use it with my stock struts or not.. i understand its bad but can i?
just something i noticed, and im not arguing the point that coilovers on stock struts is bad, but on RKsports webpage if you view the instal instructions they show them being installed on stock struts
kinda wierd i thought

thing is, it can be installed on stock struts, but not really all that practical to do so....
good for a show car, which rksports sells alot of ...show car stuff. but for any performance or longevity of a daily driver, not the effective way to go...
ahhhh alright
thanks event

instead of making it confusing, just think of a coilover as a spring/sleeve setup thats adjustable height wise.
and yea you can, but you will prob be replacing the struts soon, if not replacing parts down the road.
struts control the springs... when your struts blow its like loosing cartilage in your knee. nothing there to take the jolts and shock to the knee from movement. so with blown struts, which will happen, other things take the damage....strut mounts, bushings, ball joints, tie rods, etc....
if you like replacing parts, then you can half arse it.... or you can do it once and do it right and save money over all..
thats the way i was taught, and also learned the hard way years ago.
so you could almost run on your stock struts until you get the good struts but still not recommended.

what new struts should i get where do i look? thank you
How much would you be willing to sell your RKsport coilovers for? What year car will they fit? Is it the complete kit or would more stuff have to be purchased to make them work properly? I may be EXTREMELY interested in these coilovers if they are what I'm looking for. THANKS!!
The previous post is for Steve W
then there is something of a paradox, we have coilover shocks on the back of our cars as it is. macpherson struts are macpherson struts, putting a sleeve on them doesn't change the fact that when they get lower they screw with every angle of alignment, and if too low can contribute to busted cv joints.
CAR GODS MADE THE 1.6 SOHC TO MAKE US 2.2 OHV GUYS FEEL BETTER.
