question with sway bar and tie bar
Monday, May 23, 2005 8:00 AM
yea i just installed my addco 1 inch rear sway bar with my control fx rear tie bar and i have a problem. every time i hit a pretty good size bump in the road i get a clanking noise in the rear.... from what i can see is i think that the tie bar is hitting my exhaust pipe.... is this happening to anyone else? is there a way to fix this? also when i tightened the end links the center 2 bushings are really compressed but the helm joints on the end of the tie bar stll can move around freely so i a assume that its fine....

thanks for the help guys....

I had that problem when I first put it on. I just had to redo the order of which my bar was at. Then it was solved.

where did you relocate the bar... it you use the control FX it should be as pictured on team forward motion.

if you are hittin the pipe, simply have an exhaust shop raise the hanger an inch. prob easy to fix

moving it down moves it away from the area its supposed to be which makes it LESS effecitve. its like with swaybars....they should be parallel to the trailing arms. anything less or more, than parallel, decreases its effectiveness.

thats like mounting a sway bar half way down the strut towers.... the strut towers will still flex at the top which is directly in between the two areas that flex.

installing something in the right spot is half of installing it right to be as effective as it can be...

is it possiable to install the addco rear sway bar wrong? i am courious because where it has the bends before it goes to the end link mine with the car lowered it seems somewhat low to the ground. could anyone snap a pic of the entire sway bar with it on the ground so i can see? should it be like 4-5 inches off the ground or so with the car on the ground with stock suspension? is it possiable to install it wrong? i didnt have instructions to install it so i just put it on there the best i could by looking at pics but i am not sure.... its kinda embarrassing to ask this but if someone could do this soon would you please.. thanks...

well i think i found my problem... in this picture off team forward motions web site you see that the metal thing that goes aroudn the bushing is up into the axle on the rear of the car well when i installed my rear sway bar i have this pointing down to the ground do you think it will hurt anything leaving it like this or should i fix it? i think if i did fix it this may pull the bar up some and keep it from hitting my exhaust.... here is the pic you can see the flat metal that is mounting the v bolt and bar to the axle that i am talking about. but instead of having the bushing in the axle mine is pointing downward... thanks... i cant believe i did that wrong LOL but i guess thats what i get for no instructions on it.... LOL.. the rest of the bar is installed properly...

I installed the bar I got from teamforward motion in the place it says to on the TFM website and my bar makes a clanking noise and no it is not hitting the exhaust

near as I can figure it is the metal nuts on the end of the bar hitting the sway bar bracket or clanking against the metal spacers.....I decided to install mine between 2 bushings instead and the noise went away but I find the rear end is less firm that way...

I've pretty much decided to not use it anymore since I have a 1inch rear sway bar coming and I think that will be more then enough stability in the back of the car...

tie bar is more so for consistency, as well as stability.

its kinda like even with better struts, strut braces add consistent handling. same for a tie bar.

more than not, most peoples bars hit exhaust or the pipe itself. your call though....

well folks i got it fixed... all i did was flip the bracket over mentioned above and it pulled the sway bar where it should be and the car handles even better now... i am very impressed with this and couldnt be happier even if i do get the clanking noise lol.... thanks for the help guys you rock...

the v beam the brackes on teh bottom of the v bolt i had them wrong. i had the bushing pointing twards the road and not up into the axle like team forward motion shows....
