I am trying to switch out the mounts on my 2002 to the 95-99 style because I hear they are more reliable. I just called a couple dealers and they are telling me the mounts are the same from 95-05. I think they changed the design but neither one knew for sure. They are still the one piece thou. Anyway they want 110 for the mount, 15 for the spring seat and 8 for some new bolt you must use. That is just for one side and needless to say I'm not paying 300 for everything. I haven't called Autozone or Advance yet. Does anybody know if GM has put out a new strut mount design?
I need new strut mounts and I called around yesterday for the 95-99 ones and I got a price of $65 CAN a side. I hear that the 2000+ (something) are well over $100.
Not sure what year the switch was. But listening in for more info from others...

Go to AutoZone or Adavanced Auto Parts and get the 95-99 Monroe Strut Mates. They are about $50 for the front. $100 a set, don't pay anymore than that. Call around f you have to.
I actually just bought some Gabriel front mounts for $55CDN ea at Carquest, dealership quoted $185 ea and most other places quoted $75. I don't know that one is more reliable than the other, the way I understand it there is something missing/different with the 95-99 that makes it easier to adapt them to coilovers. If you do a search I believe it was Wild Weasel had a post somewhere explaining the difference. Or maybe just email him. As for the nut, you can just go to any hardware store and get one that will fit (14mm I believe, better yet use a lock nut or at least a lock washer)
can anyone give me instructions for removing the strut mount?
It's pretty straight forward. You have to remove the whole strut assembly, there is only 2 nuts and 1 bolt that have to be removed at the top, and 2 bolt at the steering knuckle. The whole strut/spring/mount assembly should drop out. Then you need to compress the spring and there is one nut you need to remove in order to take the mount off.

Thanks man that was just the help I needed.
95-99 mounts are one peice. 00+ are a three peice mount. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I went into the GM dealer and they are two different parts that is for sure. But at $150/each for front mounts I dont think so.
I think like monroe/gabriel are all the same for 95-02. b/c I went into part source a while ago and he had the same part number for all years 95-02 for front/rear mounts.
go figure.

Close, but you have it backwords. 00+ are the simple one piece mounts, 95-99 and early 00 i believe are the 3 piece mounts with replaceable bearings.
You sure NWCAVI? I thought 95-99 where one peice and 00+ were 3 peices. That is what the parts guy at the GM dealer told me.

i;d suggest him just buying a 14$ manual while he is there, so he has all the proper torque specs etc...
suspension is prob the last place to get lax
Well I got my mounts done at a buddies shop and it only cost me 200 for the whole job. I could have done it myself but I am too lazy. Now, gm quoted me 276 for 1 mount. Be sure that you never buy anything from a dealership unless absolutely neccesary. I called Lordco......autopart store here in western canada.....and they were only 185 for the pair. Dealerships are brutal.
