Well, I have some friends that have produced a prototype brace that connects from the front a-arm suspension to the rear trailing arms on a Tiburon. He has already sold 25 of them to the Tiburon community and I have been able to talk him into doing it for the j-body community as well. I have pics of the setup for the Tiburon, but I need some one to host them for me.
What the suspension brace does is turn the car from a uni-body suspension to a "framed" suspension. I can honestly say that there was a DRAMATIC difference in handling; there was also a HUGE difference in the ability to hook-up in drag racing scenarios. If you love to Road race, this is a must.
This is a one of a kind product; you will not find anything close to this…
To get them to produce it for us they need 10 orders in a group purchase… but right now I am just trying to see what the demand would be….

our chassis is a unibody... not our suspension....
our suspension is semi independant rear twist beam axle
and independent macpherson strut front suspension
and the front a-arms move, so is this brace moveable? allows motion, like a tie bar...
we dont have the same setup as a tibouron, for starters, we dont have a multilink rear suspension....
not sure if offering a product that hasnt been tried or tested or designed for a car is a good idea for your friend unless he knows what type of suspension it is....
like said, unibody is a chassis style, not suspension.
and our suspension is different from a tibby....
if you are talking about some sort of interior brace like a roll cage thats a whole different story....
My friend owns a chasis shop. He mainly works on trucks... lowering them.. ect... He says he can do it. The only reason why i am mentioning the Tiburon is because it is a similiar idea... yes i know that the suspension is different. but the concept is the same.
And uni-body does not offer the same rigitity that a framed car does.. so yes there is a difference... it is like adding a chassis to the suspension..
i understand this, on the unibody, but he designed a part for a multilink rear suspension. thats prob not gonna work on our suspension, atleast not readily.
also you said he attached it to the a-arms?
basically its starting to sound like a traction bar kit, similar to whats used on civics and integras via stillen and comp engeneering

with unibodies being chassies, there are VARIOUS suspension styles on unibodies.

I dont know EXACTLY how it will be mounted or designed...
I dont know a whole lot about suspension. its not my specialty.

Here are some pics of the design for the tiburon. I will be talking to him tomorrow to get more info on it.
well i can say this from that design....
there are no moveable parts on that... if you connect that to the A-arms and to the rear suspension, something WILL bend or break.
the a-arms are constantly moving, and on road racing, with everything welded together, its either gonna flex or bend permanently.
the rear suspension axle is also moving constantly. up and down.
where does this mount to the chassis itself? cause if you connect a brace like that to moving parts, pretty much you are gonna limit the travel and destroy handling.
might wanna get more info on that first.... mounting that to moving parts, iv;e seen alot of suspension designs and theories, but this one isnt comming through.... if it was a chassis brace only.... maybe, but i cant see how connecting that to 4 moving parts will help handling.

that is just a chassis brace. it is like a subframe brace that connects the front subframe to the rear suspension assy. basically and undercarriage x-brace. on the j-body it would probably connect to the front subframe, like the braces that already exist, then to the bolts that the twist beam moves up and down on. just my guess though.
Hmmm, even with my second gen that I have been under for the last 2 days there is just no way to mount these to anything. I mean you could attach the front of that to the subframe upfront, but the second gen rear axle connects just like the third.
The only thing i can think of is if it connect to the rear axle - frame mounts. IE get a longer bolt and attach it there.
A benefit to this system would be a redneck exhaust saver, you could just set your low hanging exhaust onto this
Good luck with the design and fabrication. Also this might improve the second gens and act like the convertable subframe braces.... who knows.

That looks like it would do more to stiffen up the chassis than the suspension... but that's just me.
I'd be interested in seeing where it bolts up to on a Tibby to see if I'm right on that..?
