I was just wondering how big of a drop with lowering springs i could do with my stock struts. I dont really want to have to buy new struts and lowering springs. Hit me up

look in the sticky. you can go maybe 1.2 inches but after that you need better struts.the sticky will tell you all you need to know.
hugs and hand pounds, peace
is that small of a drop even worth it?
It is derek... For performance, only a 1.5" Drop is needed. That is about the right drop to make the control arms parallel to the ground, any more than that and your just adding stress to other suspension parts.
true...guess it depends what you want outta your car, show or go.
Yup. Like you said 1.5" Really isn't worth it if your going for looks, but say your going to race your car in autocross, then it does a hell of a lot for handleing.

So even with my ProStreets I should have only dropped 1.5''? Now is this only in the front or all around? After I raise it, would I just climb under the car and look to see when the control arms are pretty much parallel? How far from the ground up to the top of the wheel well is this usually? Just wondering as I want the best handling for my car without the other suspensions parts being over worked.
This post is actually helping me and possibly others now. Sweet!
Haha, Im just stating what I have read over and over again from events posts.
Prostreets were a complete coilover system that were designed for those who wanted to lower their cars more than usual with stil a decent ride. Granted that does not mean to drive around slammed all the time because no suspension is made for that exact air ride. It only takes about 1.5" to get the control arms parallel. They don't have to be perfectly parallel, but the closer they are usually the better. I think Event or Wild Weasel would be able to explain this in more detail than I. I just don't have a life and read almost every post that is made on the whole JBO website
.
Anybody wanna help me out?
i ride with my pro streets slammed
Dammit Garrick lmao,
Honestly tho, ur stock struts can barely take what they have already, i blew one of mine out with it at stock height, i know lots of people who have went on Ebay and bought the dollar "coil overs", threw em on thier stock struts slammed and now thier cars ride like complete pieces of crap
A good rule of thumb when lowering a car

any lowering on stock struts is bad. any drop 1.5 inches or less go with the KYB AGX struts. anything bigger Koni yellows. best to do it right the first time
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I have an 03, blew all stockers with stock springs at 20k.... depends on how you drive
^ jesus dude

Disclaimer: Although Chevy Cavaliers look like they are Off roading beasts, they are not. Hell, they aren't beasts at anything.
a proven and reliable setup (which is also pretty inexpensive for a suspension) is the H&R springs on KYB AGX struts....the lowering springs are some of the best on the market, and lower the car 1.5 - 1.7 inches.
plus the adjustability of the AGXs make the struts and springs a knockout combo!
H&R springs = 200$
KYB AGX struts = 350$
i would go with that setup for a nice low ride, which also handles great.
Where could i get those prices at? On ebay the struts were 350+ 25 shipping and i could get the H&R springs for 225+ shipping on RKsport.com
going any lower with stock struts is a bad idea

Whats the difference between KYB AGX struts and KYB GR-2 struts?

I had the SAME THING. Dead stockers at 20k when I went to lower it.

Going to throw caution to the wind and put some springs on my car this weekend with the stock struts. They are eibach and I think a 1.4 drop. I am pretty sure my struts are blown right now anyway. This will give me a good excuse to buy the agx.

and pay extra money for 2 alignments which should be done right after taking off any major suspension component in the front. unless you wanna pay for new tires cause they will normally wear harder without an alignment.
also if they are already blown, and they cant control stock springs, going to a stiffer spring.... well.... like said, caution in the wind....
i would just go with rk prostreet coilovers you can lower them 3 inches with no problems!
don't drop on stock struts, they will blow on you within a few weeks, and it ain't pretty trust me i know form experience
that is my stock strut off my 200 dodge neon that lasted me about two weeks, and oil blew out of the bottom and the shock was dead. thats what i get for not knowing anything about suspensions at the time and spending a nice 50 bucks for a sweet as hell coil-over kit of ebay ..... not

just because you can lower then three inches, doesnt mean there will not be any problems.
once you pass 1.5 inches, all of your problem potential starts becoming internal, and wear and tear on other parts of the car such as your cv joints and strut mounts and arm bushings start accelerating in wear.
cars arent meant to be driven around 3 inches low.
