im wondering if there is ANY way to make a 1996-1999 cavalier so it has a rear indepenent suspension.
all cavaliers i have seen have the solid dead rear axle, which pisses me off. but were any cavvys ever made that i can swap the rear? or does any company make a kit that can replace the rear dead axle on our cars?
i know this might be a dumb post, but if im going to drop a lot of money into my car, i really want it to handle corners well!
thanks for the help!
YES its possible, but I dont know of anyone who has documented it in the recent future.
Basically you take the suspension off an N-body (like the grand am) and stick it on a j-body. It requires some cutting and welding of course, and is a little more complex than I just explained it.

mcmoney had done an IRS swap from a grand am. Not sure if he has it working yet though. Go to his profile and click on forum posts. Should be under Suspension & Brake.

If anyone didnt check the link because you have to register on the site, I suggest you register! That thread covers almost everything you need to know to do this swap. Thanks for posting it.

the swap is from the grandam/alero/malibu , using the gagt or alero will have rear disks as well
