Alignment Problems
Thursday, June 09, 2005 4:01 PM
I just received a call from the shop who installed my new easystreet air ride kit. The alignment job was outsourced to tire discounters and they could not get my car on their alignment rack even with fabricated ramps for lowered cars. I have the rk sport streetfire kit on my car. They were saying that the front bumper is in the way. The body shop who installed my body kit a few months ago said the same thing when they tried to align the car when it had eibach springs on it. I can't believe that I am the only one having this problem. Half of the reason to purchase air ride was based on the fact that I would never be able to get my car on a lift rack at a garage if something needed worked on. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

It honestly sounds like theyre giving you the run around. I cant even fathom how your front bumper could get in the way of aligning your suspension. Hope you get this worked out. My only advice is to get more opinions from different shops.

Agreed, they should be able to get it on the wrack the drive up angle is not that extreme.
Myself id go with them and make them show me that the bumper is to low.

Some shops look at lowered cars and just don't want to even try it. They mostly don't want to have to deal with the trouble of aligning a none stock suspension. It can be a PITA if you have never done a lowered car.

Allot of times the specs of the alignment change when the car is lowered, and if the techs have never done one; they have no idea where the specs should be to begin with. Thus making it difficult for the tech to figure out where it should be.

At my work we don't get to many lowered cars on the alignment rack, but one guy who worked here had a lowered Ion. His would ride up & down the ramps fine.

They may just be saying that to get out of doing the alignment. In that case, they are worried about a causing a problem to the car and being liable down the road. Which would not be a good idea to take it there if they are "afraid" to do it. Take it to other shops, if you haven't paid for it, until you get one that doesn't have a problem doing it.

I appreciate the info... I have been calling around to different shops and there are a few with the "pit style" alignment set up who don't seem too hesitant on aligning my car. Although, the streetfire bumper does seem to stick way out in front of my wheels.

I am the one that put Jason's air ride on at the shop I work at. And yes we outsource our alignment to TIre DIscounters. I hate to tell some of you guys they aren't just saying this to get out of doing the alignment on a lowered car. They do all of our alignments for us. This is just one that is causing a problem. But then again this isn't the first time that this problem has come up for them. Heck they have even made special ramps to get lowered car up on there alignment rack. But Jason's car buries the front bumper into the ramps before the wheels even get clost to the ramp. They even tried to back it on the ramp and that didn't work either. Don't worry jason we will get things figured out for you.

Are you on air right now or the rk coils? Either way, you should be able to raise your height up to get the car on the rack. Droping it back down will throw it off again, but not much. I would honestly leave it at whatever height it takes to get the car on the ramp unless you want to scrap everything in the road with your front bumper.

No worries Tony. I was just checking to see if there was anyone on the org with a similar set-up as mine having this problem. That streetfire bumper sticks waaay out in front. I am getting over curbs, speedbumps, and up my driveway just fine. All with just a press of a button. That digital controller is awesome! I am just anxious to get it aligned so I can drive it on a regular basis and so I don't wear my front tires down anymore than they already are.
