okay i've got the bar in place and I'm ready to put on the rubber bushings and clamps. I have a base model cavy and there is already a bolt where you bolt down the d-clamp on the passenger side. On the driver side, there is a threaded hole, but no bolt. I was gonna run up to the hardware store when I noticed that the bolt actually has 2 different thread sizes on it. My question is: Do I need to find a bolt identical to the one I pulled, or can I just get a bolt with the smaller thread size?

I don't understand what you are talking about, but this is what I think it is. A picture might help, because mine only had one size going down in to the subframe.
If I remember right the passenger side had a bolt that had a small thread on the top so that your power steering lines could get tied down on to it. You won't need that on your driver's side.
You only need a bolt that fits the nut on the drivers side. That simple. Probably about an inch long and I want to say its bigger than an M12(maybe M14 or so).
The bolt I pulled from the passenger side fits right into the same hole on the driver side. The hole on the driver side is threaded large at the top, then a smaller size once you get further down.

you just need a regular suspension grade bolt to fit the hole
Sounds like you just lost a bolt. Make sure you use lock tight ( BLUE ) on all the bolts when you put it back together.
Good luck.
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
The hole seems to be a 9mm size because 8 and 10 do not fit. I've checked hardware stores and auto parts stores and they carry an 8mm and a 10, but no 9mm.

do your self a big favor, call the dealer with your vin and get the bolt AND thread size. it is year specific for the thread so you could have the 10 mm bolt but it won't go because the thread is wrong. I had that problem I got my hardware from the junkers when I pulled the bar. but because it was off a 98 the threads were wrong.
I found out that the hole is threaded for 10mm. There was never a factory bolt in that hole, so rust and dirt built up in there. I went to retap the hole and since there's little room to work, I ended up using a socket wrench. bad idea. tap broke off in hole. time to take off subframe.

That takes skill. I work in a machine shop and I have never seen anyone brake a tap off in their piece. Hopefully there is enough of the tap sticking out for you to grab on to. It could be fun getting a pair of needle nose pliers in there. At least you know what size it is now
