CHECK YOUR BAGS!!!!!!!

Well Ive pretty much decided that air ride on a J is a joke.

The air lift brand air bags have pissed me off.
First the bottom plate on one of my rear bags simply poped off.

Then today I take off my front struts to see that one of my bags is about to pop. THis thing only has 4" of stroke and never seen over 100psi. SO its not like its over worked or anything.

THe center ring around the bag between the two donuts is coming apart. Its a group of wires inside the rubber thats the keeps the center from ballooning out. Well most of my wires are busted and have ripped threw the rubber. Its only a matter time before the other thin wires bust and the bag goes.

Cool. JUst know that it can be a problem. ANd keep an eye on it.
I talked with a guy today that said his bag did that and the wire punctured the bag while on the highway.

man this is distressing as i planned to run the easy street kit on my car, i wasnt aware that art made kits for the j-body, the only other options i knew about were aim or cylinders and i've heard bad things about both. has anybody else had alot of problems with the easy street kit on a daily driven car?

how much are you guys using these bags? are you guys hopping or dog legging? or anyhting like that? If i just drove around as a daily driver then i don't see where all these problems would arise? I am planning on going air in about 2 weeks or so... so this is why i am asking these questions and researching...

Im guessing mine had around 20,000 miles on them and were on car for 18-19 months.

I played around with mine but I also never ran anything higher than 145 psi in my tank. I know alot of people run 175s. So with 145 psi in 5 gallon tank when I lifted the front they would actualy only get up to about 100psi. THey are ratted for 175psi.

JUst seems like a joke to me. I have freiends running firestone bags for 3-4 years on trucks.
THats why I give on the J-body air ride.

ive had my bags on for about the same as esb. about 20k or so and i installed them last april (04). my car has been a daily driver since the day i bought it and i had the bags on during winter. no real problems besides that clunk which i think is somethin' else now besides the bag set-up itself. i never play w/ my switches. i rarely slam my car and the bags dont get to much play from me. every once and a while yea but i dont like to show-off

I always play with switches all of the time. I entertain many people at traffic stop lights or parking lot. I like seeing them smiling and their jaws dropped. Some of them complimented on my car! Im not some big headed guy but you all know what I mean!

Its always fun but now I gotta look out on my bags!

So out of this post i got that if you abuse bags they will bust? My buddy has a bagged truck and its fun as hell to show off and he has firestone bags on his and he likes to slam it and everything but i guess if you abuse they will tend to bust, if something busts like the air strut or w/e would it just be like a blown strut on a normal car? or what? and if I got them, would i need to keep spare parts on hand 24/7??

yea if your bag goes, some other things will go too

Well all four of my tires used to rub. I had a fitting on the tank brake and I lost total system pressure. The car laid out all 4 corners at 60 mph and It went up in a cloud of tire smoke.

So I then cut away or beat the crap out of everything that got in the way. I could then lay out and still drive while all the way down. But I still couldnt turn very much.

Now the strut itself. Those were blown many miles ago. My good soft ride went when the struts did. But I could still lift because the bag was intact. THey cost just under $100 each to replace. the bag I think is way over $100 to replace.

Now As far as bags and how long they last. They can last for years. I Just read post on another forum about a guy running 4 bags for like 6-7 years. So you never know. JUst keep them clean. I know another guy who purchased a truck already bagged and it had set up for over a year outside. THe now use caused the bags to dry rot and sure enough about a month later he popped one. So again. Keep clean and keep an eye on them.

But the main reason that Im taking them off for good is because they quality that I personaly think is poor on AIr lifts part. (makers of easystreet) I do not like the bag design anymore after research of others brands and how long they last under presure.
Look at my rear bag in my other post and see what I mean. The rubber is just help onto the plates with a metal strap that obviously isnt tight enough. Other brand bags have the rubber rolled into the metal. You cant get it out without destroying the rubber itself. Ive never seen another ag have a plate just pop off like this. and Ive seen plenty of Air lift bags do it.

However I just read yesterday that in like two months they will have a brand new design out. It will most likely look like other brands if they want it to work.
