Well its finally time to buy some struts for my sportlines (which I've been waiting ever so patiently to install since February!), but I have a little dillema - I cant choose! Now, everything I've read about both has been positive, so this is the problem. Has anyone tried both yet?
Obviously, Sportline drop is 1.7" Front and 2.3" Rear...
What I've compiled basically:
Tokico D-Spec:
-1.5" warranty according to Jim Gravana, but I've also heard they will warrant sportlines?
-Bolt on install - I would definitely be able to install them myself
-I can get them for $830 (Canadian)
-Fairly new product, so reliability is a bit of a concern
Koni Yellow:
-3" warranty
-Proven reliability/quality
-B**** of an install, might have to get someone to do it for me - therefore more money
-I dont get to keep my stockers (not a big concern)
-Not sure about the price, I was expecting about $780, but the quote I got was $900 from the same place as the $830 for tokicos, I'm still looking around for a better price on these (if anyone knows anywhere in the KW-Guelph area I'd love to know)
Opinions/Other things I should be considering? I'm looking for comfort as well as reliability, and hopefully a not-so-bouncy ride. Thanks.
I just recently installed the Tokico D-Specs on my Cav and love 'em. Screw the Koni's. They're just overpriced and a pain in the ass to install, but the Tokico's are really good for the price, and really easy to intall. That just my opinion though, do what you feel is best for you. I got a complete Tokico D-Spec suspension setup, including Tokico springs that were designed for the D-Spec strut, for $685 US dollars shipped to my house. I found 'em here:
Tokico D-Spec suspension system
It gave me a 1.6 drop all around, which was exactly what I was looking for.
Good luck
Oh, and JDMwerks had the suspension to my house in 3 days. They have hella fast shipping.
I <3 my D-Specs. I was told Sportlines are warrentied. So what I use and love them!

Whoa whoa , tell me more, because if thats true , i got me a new suspension!
Evansville , hit me up on aim id youde like . xOneLastMemoryx
konis arent hard to install unless your a special ed student, just a bit of a pain in the ass if you ask me. All you need is a pipe cutter and a drill and your set.

Not to jump down anyones throat... but can someone PLEASE explain to me on how you find out, or who you talk to find out how many inch lowered the two different companies wattanty? For example Tokico for the 1.5 inch and Koni for the 3.0 Inch?
I would really like to know this.
Thank you.
Koni siad they can do a 3 inch drop, but i don't think they will warrenty it. the reason i want koni's is they are factory on lambo's and what not. so if those come on a car that compleatly totaled is worth more then mine new, i figure there good enuff for my car.

Well, like I said I heard the 1.5" from Jim, the 3" for koni is what I always heard. Though, even if it wasnt 3" say, I wouldn't really care, because I know people who have had problems with the konis while using sportlines have had them replaced under warranty.
when i was looking i talked to the guys at tokico and they said for the cav its recommended at 1.4 for a drop but they warranty them till 2 inches
Koni's aren't that much harder to install than stock. I have done two sets, mine and DirtyElfs. I even did a install with pictures if you want to see how easy it is. it more time consuming than hard, but hey it's really hot in Florida so you move slow.
Koni install w/ pictures
ok so i have sportlines...
1. should i look into buying prokits instead?
2. which is better koni yellows of tokico d-specs?
3. i was looking at buying tokico blues because i have a friend who droped his celica on blues like 2.5 inches and never had a problem ... he does like 120 everytime he gets on the freeway so he drives really hard and they held up no problem
what do you guys think ?

1. its up to you do you like being that low or would you like to be higher.
2. Koni's will allow for more of a drop and you will need to go w/ koni's if you keep the sportlines.
3. i think your friends an idoit
When I called Tokico to find a dealer for when I bought mine I asked. He told me specifically that it would be warrienty under Sportlines drop. So heard from Tokico
Well if anyone actually cares I ordered the D-Specs... should be in sometime next week

AEM Short Ram Intake
B&M Short Throw Shifter
don't buy sportlines it sounds as if you already ordered but if not - get the whole d-spec kit it comes with springs for a 1.6" drop, that way you know it's warrantied and besides that the springs are desigened to work with the struts perfectly - instead of two mis-matched parts which will most likely cause your struts to fail prematurely if the spring ratio is too stiff or too light - just my opinion but I am a certified tech. - I just got my kit (pn# dsk-501) today and am going to install Friday.
I am not worried bout warranty, but how do the D-Spec's ride? do they handle bumps good with the sportlines?
