Prostreet spring delete..?

I have the RK prostreet coilovers on my 99Z, the ones with the little spring on bottom and a larger spring on top. the smaller spring is completly compressed on the back , so i was wondering could i just take it out and get even more of a drop out of my back prostreets? good or bad for the struts? any thoughts would be cool-peace

probably bad for the struts depending how low it would drop you

good way to blow em out....

they are designed for the helper springs for a reason.

they arent designed to be slammed and ran around with the strut shaft completely bottomed out.

as it stands you can bottom it out with the helper springs on there. removing a spring that takes up nearly 1.5 -2 inches when compressed wouldnt be smart at all in the least bit.

a few things WILL occur...

you end up bending your ball joint and have your rotor rub on it like this... http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.php?f=3&i=92392&t=92392

you trash your strut mounts and bearings cause bottoming out is basically like riding on welded in steel rods.

as it stands the smaller spring is completely compressed on both the front AND the rear... its only a 115lb/in rated spring, and made to keep the wheel and tire in contact in turns on the side that raises a bit, and also bad roads.

if you have some deal with "i hafta be mad low" then start lookin into air bags. mechanical suspension is meant to have a certain amount of actual suspension articulation.

doing what you are thinking you might as well get stock struts and ebay coilovers, cause thats the damage that will eventually occur to em. hell just check the post i put up above.

thats gonna get expensive... every time you remove the strut you will need an alignment.

from what i know the small spring is there to keep pressure on the spring seats when say 1 wheel comes off the ground during hard cornering , and helps to keep the parts from slaming together when it comes back down

kinda like you raise the car in the air and take the weight off all the tires on some coil-overs the struts will fullu extend , and the spring looses contact with the spring seats , the small spring is there to take that slack up

if you understand what im saying

Deffinatly don't take those helper springs out....those struts would have no travel at all then.

To adress my issue that you linked to Event. My problem still isn't solved. I replaced the ball joint and it didn't help at all so i replaced the entire control arm and ball joint with a brand new fully loaded one from gm. Still didn't fix the problem. Now i'm left with either the Steering knuckle (which i can't see how that solid piece of metal would bend....but then again....it would only need to bend about 1or 2 degrees to change the whole geometry) or possible the the Hub bearing with the wheel studs. That would be easier to find out if i had a run-out gauge. I also get a clicking noise which sounds like my abs sprocket rubbing on something while turning but that could be my @!#$ting auto zone axel i have in there till my new gm axel comes in.

The second smaller set of springs are called "tender springs". They are supposed to compress all the way (or close) when weight is on them (car on the ground). They keep everything tight when the car is lifted (jacked up, or agressive driving).

not always agressive driving.... bad roads as well....
