new pads and rotrs, now squealing
Friday, September 02, 2005 4:26 PM
I just put on new pads and rotors. I went with EBC greenstuf and powerslot rotors. I followed the break in procedure and now they work awesome when i try to stop in a hurry. The only problem is, under light braking they squeal really bad. I put grease on the back of the pads where the meet the caliper and steering knuckle and also on the caliper slide pins. The squeal is really bad, almost like when the pads are worn down too far. This only happens under light braking, it is fine under heavy braking. Is this normal or any idea as to what could be causing this? Thanks for any information.

Slotted rotors nautrally squeak (or make sound anyway, but just a little).. but if it's loud then you have a problem. One of those clips isn't bent in, making contact and squeaking, is it?

first take the front breaks apart again and clean out the caliper slide pin holes and pins with WD40 and re-grease them. then take some course sand paper and lay it on a flat surface and run the surface of the pad across it a few times to get rid of the glaze and or and lines. then re-install and bed in the pads again. if that does not work goto the auto-parts store and get some of that anti-squeal stuff and use it on the back of the pads. OH and make sure that you clean the hub surface that the rotor sits on with a wire brush. just amke sure that it is clean as possible.

see ya!

well, when i installed the pads and rotors, i put brand new guide pins and bushings in, so that isnt it. Also, it only squeals after ive put some heat into the brakes. It is also only during very light braking. Do you think i should still re-break-in the pads? Sorry this sounds like rambling.

it sounds like a bit of rotor run out. i would clean the glaze off the pads and bed them in again. and use that anti squeal stuff.

Do the pads come with the anti-squeel shims?
If not, get the goo to put on the pads.
