Sup guys,
My setup is KYB AGX struts and the Eibach Pro-kit. I've heard I wouldn't need a spring compressor when I change my strut mounts because the eibach prokit is stiffer and shorter which means less tension.
But then I've heard of what happens if a spring that is very tight is removed without a spring compressor and well, I wouldn't want to kill my friend
, so I'm asking you guys what do you think ?
Any experiences on that or precautions I should take? Maybe I really do need the spring compressor ?

I do it with an impact gun. I just put my weight on the hat the burp it off.
It might require two people if doing it with a wrench.
I am all that is man
Hell, I take apart stock springs without using a spring compressor. The furthest I've ever "shot" the nut is only like 5 feet. But I wear eye protection anyway
I've only ever used spring compressors to install springs... if they're too tall to put the strut mount on. Otherwise I don't bother.
If you do bodily harm to yourself or other, or if you do property damage of any kind it is NOT our fault! Yeah, we don't always use them.. But they're cheap (if not free to rent) and cheap to buy too.
removed stock springs on a 3rd gen once. took a little hunting to find the top nut. the spring didn't go far, but i sure wouldn't want to be in front of it, eye protection or not.
Have you seen the turbo wagon?

street tires
rough tune
use 2 ropes and tie both sides of the spring. remove assembly, l8er remove rope
They run for like $25-30 at parts stores. Why not just buy one?
Because the time it takes you to get the spring compressor setup on one strut I could have both nuts off of both struts.

still better than killing yourself lol.
its safer to do it with the spring compressor
however most including myself do it without.....
thing is, and anyone here has to agree there are some dull dim people in the world that dont think before they do...
for those types, if you are one, use the spring compressor. i;ve seen broken arms, missing teeth as a result of not using one.
but keep in mind, some use their mellons more than others, thats that lump about 3 feet above your butts
found a place close to my home that can rent it to me for 10$.
and Event, some intelligent people like to not put their head under the guillotine everytime they mess on their cars. So for 10 $, I'll take the spring compressor.
Thanks for your inputs guys !

I worked in a shop where their "industrial" spring compressor broke....
SOB spring shot about 50 foot then imbedded itself in the concrete block wall....
Turns out the tech doing the work had compressed the spring so much that the fingers holding it snapped, and it went ZIP into the wall.... Thankfully no one was in the path of the marauding spring.
Freakin morons.... When will they learn. Hold On Not Done Accelerating

In Highschool auto class some kid didn't properly install the spring compressor to the spring it shot right through the aluminum school roof. I personally did mine without one....there was just a loud pop but no projectiles in the air.
When using one, you should compress the spring abour 2". Not as far as it will go. Just engough to make it loose. With out cars that should put it under <300lbs force. That kind of force will do some damage, but will not go through any aluminum roof.
What do you mean by it will cause some damage ? It's compressed by the spring compressor no ?
If that helps, my friend was the one who installed my agx's and pro-kit, so logically taking it off should be as easy as putting them on ?

I did my AGX's with stock springs, really easy to do.
Def use a spring compressor if it's your first time
Unless you can drag someone like event out to help you.
I still use them because my stepdads trans-am lives in the garage where I do all my car work, and I value my life.

I mean if you did something stupid and suddenly released the spring. One guy there said it planted itself in a wall, the other said it went through a roof. Our springs are no where near strong enough to do that.
If you use the spring compressor correctly you will be plenty saft (no damage anywhere).
Dont pay the ten dollars to rent one at some other store. Autozone or checker will rent it to you for free!!!
the gas and time it costs me to cross the U.S. border and find a damn autozone or checkers are hardly worth it

Your tellin me they don't have autozones or checkers in Canada? *completely ignorant about canada* I wanna move to canada, but i wouldn't get paid enough lol. Marijuana is chill though
I have never used one. I just jack the car up till the the spring is un-loaded (tire fully drooped down) and proceed to remove the strut. Never had a problem.
lol, the only time I need a spring compressor is when I'm putting stock springs on...... their too tall to get the strut mount on, and thread on the nut.
There is not enough tension on a cavalier spring to shoot off. If your to scared about it, pull the strut nut while its still on the car, on the ground. Then while your jacking the car up, you'll releive the tension on the spring...... pull the strut mount off, and then while someone holds the strut straight, lower the car back done. Once back on the ground, install the strut nut..... then jack it up a hair, and tighten the nut. Bam.... done.
