Grinding Noise

Well i hope this is the right area to ask this. I am having problems with my sunfire, 99 gt 5spd. It seems that if i take a corner a little fast, and turn the wheel sharply i get a horrific grinding noise from my front end. At first i though i blew a tire and scraped my rims on the ground, thats how bad it was. It only occurs if i turn the wheel alot above a certain speed, i would guess 10 kilometers/hour or more. Any idea what could cause this? Wheel Bearing, CV joint? I would like to know what it could be before i tear this car apart again this year. Thanks

Sounds like a wheel bearing. Could be a strut mount* or CV joint possible.

*We throw the mount in as an explination to any front end problem cause they go bad all the time, and we do mean all the time.

So strut mount, cv or bearing, i though so, i believe it could be a bearing cause even going straight sometime the wheels make a strange whirring noise. I will check it out when i get the energy to touch the car again

definately sounds like a wheel bearing. i just had my driverside front one done, and what a difference. i beared with the grinding for like 4 months untill it got unbearable, now its silent. my passenger side one went last April, so dont be surprised if in the next year your other one goes to $&%*.

this is my sig

When these strut mounts give, what all happens?? Mine still has an alignment problem where the wheel is always left, and the front left suspension sounds like crap when making harsh turns to the right (this I just noticed today). Am going to take it back in for realignment for the second time this month, and will see how that goes. Otherwise, I suppose it must be something else. The front end just makes too much clunking noise for comfort, especially on the dvr's side.

A "Clunking" or "Rumbling" noise is by far the most common symptom. If the bearing ceizes it will make a whole variety of new clunking, screeching, and grinding noises (mostly while turning the wheel); and it may cause your car to pull in the last direction you turned hard. Struts coming up throught the mount and into the hood also indicate a problem. If have front end noise that is most prominent while hitting bumps or turning the wheel, it's probably a mount.
