I was sitting here thinking about my car back in the states and was dreaming a what if question...
If back in 94 I was in charge of the J-body production and was asked what the J-body needed, what I would say....
And, at the top of my list was a V6 in the Z24. Like a 3100 or 3400 would ahve been a nice idea.
The Technic Cavalier would have been a nice performance model too.
What do you think?

I've always wondered why it didn't get a 3100 or a 3400. CAFE standards?

I would of went with better build quality, IRS, rear disc brakes, lower stance, and of course a supercharged 3800

Lol Jacob thats a little much, remember this is still supposed to be low end GM stuff. But the new GT's should have had a much much better package. I'd keep the base model stuff exactly where it is, I mean seriously. Its a cheap car for getting groceries. But if you want the GT it, you can. Base model would have the 2.2 eco, GT you have an option of 2 different motors, a 3400 or a supercharged 2.2 eco (the same one as the base). GT's would come with irs, disc brakes and an optional 6speed. And up to 17" rims. It would be lower about 2.5" and would have a little bit stiffer suspension, not by too much as it is still stock. But they would use larger sway bars, and on front and back. And maybe have an agressive front/rear lip added to the factory bumpers. IMO the base and GT's are almost exactly the same. GT is only in canada, but for you americans its the performance package, or whatever they call it.
Said by cheesecake: I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GENERAL MOTORS PRODUCT IN MY LIFE GM CAN SUCK MY D*CK
I AGREE!
disk brakes all around, lower stance, turbo straight from the factory like the SRT-4, better interior
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
abs brakes that dont sound like your car is gonna explode...

Unfortately, GM wanted the 4-banger/V-6 choice a little higher in the market, in the grand -am / malibu spot.

Definetly Rear Discs and an optional V6 in Fires & Z24's alittle lower & Stiffer suspension, Darker tint on windows.
i woulda defeinetly improved build quality and had better seats i would have the 3400 as a z24/gt and had a few special editions with the sc3800 i also would have done A LOT more sound proofing and i mean a lot
umm your all forgetting the car was pretty much bottom of the line for GM/Chevy at the time, it wasnt really ment for a performance luxory vehicle, its a economy family vehicle...
i would have put better struts on them and thicker steel for the fire wall and front and rear strut towers. as well as better rubber than the stock rsa's and give the z24 and gt a bigger rear sway bar. regal GS brakes all the way around. thats it!
see ya!
hey if the freaking focus can have leather as an option why the hell cant we...and yeah i woulda loved rear discs....especially on the 2.4 pre-eco and discs on the eco ls port cpes and sedans...and hell yeah i wanted irs
Not unintentionally accelerating since 2009!!!!
well since im keeping in mind its a bottom of the line econo car from GM.....if they would have made a little better interior, and added a rear sway bar similar to the rk one on all models, and strut tower braces or someting similar on ls sports/z24's i think it would of given the J's a little more respect in their segment
I think 3rd gen j-bods are great. I like the preformance and overal apperance and styling.
What I hate about the car, is the braking. The handling is horrid as well. Brakes and suspension improvements would have made this car near perfect, IMO.
yeah rear disks would be nice, as would IRS, but while changing my oil today, it would have been nice if the designers hadnt tucked the oil filter on the 2.2 OHV behind the engine where its just not alot of fun to change.....
lol, 4th, oh well, im working on it.

I really like it there....theres accually room to get my hand on it
you must be super skinny, cause i have one hell of a time getting my hand on mine from the top, on my manual i jack it up and go at it, then on my auto, they put the trans in the way so you have to get it from the top, which is a pain in MY ass.
lol, 4th, oh well, im working on it.
1 minor thing that is most major to me.
Covers for the seat brackets
How stupid and cheap can you be to just put rubber caps on the tops of the bolts.

I'm thinking rear disk brakes, some power seats, better suspension, AWD, and a turbo would be nice.
Since the J platform is an economy platform I would of went with better build quality, rear disk brakes and better rotors and also of course better suspension!
Just Wait and See..........
