5500 RPM's is a pretty standard number. that's what I shift at. Red line (fuel cut off) I think is 6600? someone correct me if I'm wrong?

from what i have been told it it is best to shift where the max HP is which is around 5000-5700 depending on the car after that the power drops off to redline.

about 6800-7000 for me to make sure I dont hit the limiter (I get that like rev going between shifts sometimes), that's around 125mph in 4th (HEHE quads rule!!!)

As close to redline as I can get. On my 2.4L, that's 6500 rpms.

same as yours 7400, or maybe it was 7200, I think it was 7400. the chip from Mantapart for the HO. I also think my Tach is off 200 rpm since I idle at 1200 on my tach, when I'm sure it's 1000 in reality. so for sure it's 7400, because it hits limiter at 7200 on my tach, + the 200 it's off = 7400. oh, and the 125mph is from my gear calculator, since my speedo stops at 110mph, but that will be changing...soon.

and Scott, darn you, I'm now torn between the stroker (2.6L) and my "other" option (combatphil on quad4forums has the setup I want to use) I could do both, but that's a project that would take YEARS.

if youve got the HO chip is relines at 7200 ( if its the manta one) im running the w41 chip cus my stroker has w41 cams ..what is this combatphil option you speak of?? i cant wait to get my stroker dynoed so i can post the sheets...im shooting for over 250 whp NA

the combatphil option...you arent on quad4forums? lets just say that some firecrackers are m80's but the big boy's are playing with the m90. I hope you understand. yeah I just confirmed, it's 7200, maybe the tach says 7000 since it's off a little. I'm for sure I idle at 1200 on the tach. the 3-4 shift at 7000 darn near makes the car go sideways, it makes the blood flow, especially when you look down and see the speedo stop LOL

yea..i hate the damn tach ..mine says 800 but i know it idles at 1000 ...and yes im on there i just dont check as often cus there isnt as many people and the only thing on there pertaining to my car is the engine and tranny...im gonna go look...i just dont think i can do anything else after what ive already invested into my 2.6

by the way your car has the 2.2 not the 2.0 as it says in your registry.....

anyway, i duno how u were doin 40 in 1st....my 2.2 can only get to about 32mph before the rev limiter kicks in, and shift at about 30

and w/ my ecotec i run to about 6300-6400

so when i shifted it was at 5500rpm's? damn i really was getting after the lil gas beater and i have to say i am impressed that scott trent is shooting for 250hp n/a out if his 4 cyclinder cause before i decided to go with my stroker motor i was only shooting for 250hp but everyone said i was guesstimating way to low. but thats still really impressive considering the weight difference. just think scott trents cavi can hang with decently modded mustangs thats crazy i didn't know cavi's had that much potential. scott how much money do u say u have invested in ur motor to accomplish this? and thanks for the help

shift as close to limiter as you can

shifting any earlier is stupid and always slower

OHV should shift at 6000
Ecotec should shift at 65, 66, 6700 whatever
2.4... i don't know i never drove one

shifting any earlier accomplishes absolutely nothing other than wasting power that could help carry you into the next gear I've tried earlier, i've tried later, later is always better

you do this when your racing? thats almost 1000rpm too early... wether ur doin this on the track or on the street, when you want maximum acceleration take it up to 6500rpm

4500rpm is cake for the ecotec, don't be afraid

its extremely robust and well designed.

250 N/A out of a Quad is not that hard to do, stroke it and give it fuel and ignition, and you got 250FWHP. Scott, you got me really thinkin about the stroker over the other option, just for the fact that I can keep the A/C with the stroker LOL.

Squirrel. In looking at the dyno graph supplied by G.M. in the 2005 performance parts book the ECOTEC drops power in stock form around 5800 I believe it was. Torque drops off after around 4500. So shifting after you've passed your peak power point will slow you down. Now I haven't dynoed my car so I have no idea where its power and is after I've made all the mods that I have so far thats why I still go off the chart G.M. gives.

Not trying to start with you at all I was just giveing my reasoning.

if your just asking about what ive invested in the engine itself your looking at about 3500 ...and just for reference i was shooting for 250 Whp ..and yes i knwo thats low..but still a good goal..in the process ive also managed to drop my engine weight by about 120lbs! mostly by coverting to belt drive instead of using the timing chain(thats not cheap) when ;your talking about quads your talking about an engine thats PROVED to gain 20whp just by adding a good header..10hp with cams..a few more with a PnP i mean if you just do those mods alone with a CAI your looking at a 220 hp 4cylinder ..thats respectable...and not very expensive.....i just dont wanna put money into my quad and say "well i wish i had done it this way instead" so im going all out NA best i know how..UPDATE..i just got my insurance check so the stroker SHOULD be done some time this month..i cant wait to give you guys dyno numbers

usually about 6k, typically the yellow area on the tach, as much higher and the rev limiter kicks in, IMO shouldnt the 2.4L have say a higher redline? Its almost as if as soon as it hits, its fuel cutoff.
