So this has been tested for about 5 full gas tank fills.
When my check guages light comes on for low fuel, i still have 4 gallons left in the tank. When the light comes on, and I go to the next gas station (like 2 miles away most), the pump cliks twice, and i stop fueling at..... you guessed it 12 gallons. Is anyone else guage like this, it really trips me out and i wish there was a way to fix it, is there a way, thanks!

my owners manual says lees than 13 and i have never been able to pump more in
Your light comes on when you have much less than 4 gallons, more like 2 if that. Otherwise, even if you had a 16 gallon tank (which we don't), that would mean the light came on when you had a 1/4 tank left. I believe the tanks are around 12.5-14 gallons.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
the light comes on at 1.5 gallons and we have a 13 gallon tank
I thought it was like 14 for the newer plastic tanks, and 15 for the older metal tanks?
my cav specs says 15.5 gallon. got it off the specs for the cavalier last year on the GM website. I dont believe it though.

i know i've never got more than like 13.5 in it on a COMPLETELY empty tank
the gas pumps stop pumping gas when your tank is about 80% full, so if we have 15 gallon tanks they will only fill to 13 gallons
When I fill my tank up, the fuel level needle is about a cm past the "full" line, but whenever I fill up at the empty light I get about 13-14 gallons in.
i have a 14 gallon tank and my light comes on when i have 1.5 gallons left and i have filled mine up from dead empty
The one, the only, ME.
well some one ill hve to convert for me but in my 97 2.2 i put 57 ltr, and i usally can do about 60 km when my gas light comes on
Don't forget the tank also has baffles inside to prevent sloshing of the fuel. These baffles occupy some of that 14 or 15 gallon capacity, eliminating the abilty to store fuel there. I stll have the old metal tank sitting in my driveway from when I changed it in the wife's cavalier. What is interesting is the metal aftermarket one has shallower baffles but does hold more fuel.
