Hi all, merry xmas, I thought that our cig. lighters were switched, so they turned off when the key was out. My fuse was blown in mine so I replaced it today and found out the thing still stays powered up even when the igntion is off
So that pretty much foils my plans of powering my tach off the cig. lighter; can anyone suggest a switched power source to use instead?
Wire it to your ignition fuse.
yea a switch would be a good idea anyways.
check your power accesory wire for the radio

You can tap into the wipers.
I ran a female lighter socket to the wiper fuse for my XM Radio, wanted to keep the other one just in case. By doing this, the one I added was switched.
Thanks everyone, I just used an "Add A Circuit" thing on the radio fuse. (
see here, only for our cars you need the "minifuse" version - $9.47 at Murrays)
Interesting. Never seen that before. I personally wouldn't use it. I'll stick to my solder and heat shrink.
I would have soldered, but I couldn't get the fuse box out so it was accessible. Why wouldn't you use the add a circuit thing?
Test the wires on the back of the radio with a test light and tap in....

Yea, ummmm. I used to have a J-body...
Those fuse taps are great, I've used them before. It seems like they made ALL the fuses smaller (on the '03+) like the ones at the top of your fuse box in your pics, and the fuse taps are too big for them, I've tried.

Doh, never mind, pics are from an Audi.

Yeah, I just found that online and thought it would help. Its not a j and it's not my creation
I just thought it would make more sense to someone who didn't know what a "fuse tap" was.
They were very good pics, even had me fooled into thinking it was a J til I saw the a/c vents, but I did wonder why they were on audi.net LOL

Sorry for the confusion, I was just going to steal a couple of the pics, but then just decided that it was a good source to throw into this post.
