next step in performance upgrade?
Friday, March 03, 2006 6:40 PM
I have as some of you may know, a 2002 sunfire with the 2.2 OHV motor, and 4-speed auto.

I already have an intake, pacesetter header, hi-flow cat, getting a catback (its shipping now). I have noticed a fair increase in acceleration. I was wondering what the next best step is that i can do?

I was thinking about a power programmer, but Im not too sure if there is one for this car/motor. Possibly a performance chip? is there anything?

what do you guys suggest i do now?

dont bother looking cause there is none...not yet.

HPtuners is coming out with a programmer. but who knows when that will be ready

you can always get, a bigger TB, pulleys, engine mounts. just got to pick something and go with it

I think that since tuning the PCM is out of the question for right now, that im going with new mounts and some throttlebody work.

I do not know where to look for a bigger TB however, does anyone know a company that manufactures 2.2 OHV TB's?

I also in my searching found this TB spacer, http://www.seffects.com/parts/ARD2005541.htm ... does anyone know if it works well enough to spend $100 on? and will that fit the 2.2 OHV motor?

thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it!

TB spacer is junk

you can always get your stock Tb bored out. or look at the Performance FAQ for some links

I would still suggest making a plan for what you want out of your vehicle and how much money you want to spend before spending hundreds of dollars that might send you in the wrong direction.

you have a 2200 OHV, not the 2.20hv. I know same thing right? nope, they are different engines, and they have different parts.

As for a TB, i suggest the 56mm 2.3L tb. Its a direct swap except for the throttle rotor, which btw is an easy modification.

Another suggestion is the Howell automotive roller rockers, and 3 or 5 angle valve job, and a port and polish job.

Where would I look for a 2.4 56mm tb? OR what year/model car has one that will work for me?

again thankyou, lots is being cleared up here, and yes i thought that the 2.2 and 2200 was the same thing, from now on, tis the 2200 OHV

but where should i look for a tb, im thinking junk yard, but what car should i steal it out of?

Well you shouldn't steal lol

The 56 MM TB that he's refering to is the 2.3 Quad Stock Throttle Body.

Yeah, the 2.2 OHVs we refer to are the OHVs from 95-97 and the 2200s we refer to are the OHVs from 98-2002.
