hi there. I have a 1996 pontiac sunfire and i really am fustrated with my abs. I had i think code 65 and something else. The mecahnic told me it was my abs module so i bought another one and still same dang thing. When i start up the car the abs light is off but when i drive for just a little bit(1 minute) the abs light goes on and i have no abs anymore. I want to sell the car so i need this to work. I also bleeded the whole abs system when i did the module. Can any of you guys help me out here? thanks so much!! if you need anymore info to analyze this problem post away im open to anything here to fix this problem. I also dont know how to check if my sensors anre working. i cleaned all of them and made sure they were plugged in. again thanks

First thing is check your front sensor wires for breaks in the wires. Pull the loom off and check to see if there are any soft spots in the wires by trying to stretch the wire where it bends the most from suspension movement. Most of the time the breaks are very close to the lower ball joints. Ill have to check the code for you to see what the 65 is for sure. Most of the time its the front sensor wires, also check the plug on the side of the abs mod (larger plug) for loose connections, and check the plug that goes into the body's floor in the back above the rear axle for dirty or corroded terminals. This plug is for your rear speed sensors. Check this stuff out and Ill get back to you with the code info.

I cant find a 65 for abs system, It should be a 5 digit code starting with a letter. OBDII systems are 5 digit codes. How did you get a 2 digit code?

Hi Joey

have a read of this, I realize it's not directly pinpointing your car but if you read down they say Code45 could be low battery voltage.

I notice they are quoting two digit codes?

Hope it helps, anyways

I had the same problem. There was a break in the wire right at the plug going into the sensor. Mine was on the drivers side plug. Just pull the tire and unplug the sensor and check the wire going into the plug. I just replaced the wiring harness. It comes with connectors. The problem has not returned. Check with the parts counter at the dealer. From what I understand this is a common problem.

i rotated my tires the other day and before i put my front driver side wheels back on, i pushed the sensor in to make sure and my light stayed off for a while....

after driving a bit and making some turns, it came back on, but you may want to do as said above.

Hey I have an Idea, just drive in a straight line.

But seriously , it is a big problem with the wires on the front wheels, and if you want to go out and buy a new harness you can do that. If you un clip the wire from the suspension and from the splash shields. re-attach it leaving litle slack in it, you will have enough to clip off the plug end, take apart the plug end and solder the wires back on. Be sure to leave enough slack for suspension and steering movement at the lower ball joint and lower a-arm to subframe.

Most codes for OBD II are 5 digit codes, for example my car has this code P0420. Let me break this code down for you. P= Power train meaning it is in the engine or drive line. the other possible letters are C= Chassis, B= Body or N= Network. The 1st # tells you if it is a generic (SAE) code or manufacturer specific. 0= Generic (SAE) and 1= Manufacturer specific. The 2 # tells you what part of the car the problem is in. I don't remember all the 3's but i will tell you what i think they were, if wrong, someone please correct and sorry for wrong info. 1= Fuel system if i remember right a 1 means it is in the fuel delivery/ evap system. 2= I am not sure of. 3= a misfire i think and I know 4= exhaust system. I am not sure of where 5 or 6 is but I think 7 and 8 are related to the transmission. 9= a Network problem (doesn't occur often) The last 2 digits tells you the specific problem. For my code 20 means it is the after cat O2 sensor. I hope this helped a bit. I also hope others can fill in what I left out.

on another note one of the reason abs lights come on is because when theres a loss of traction your abs will kick in. the light just goes on to let you know that its activated.

i really have no idea how these correlate, but i found out that one of my tail lights were out; which was causing my passenger side turn signal to blink twice as fast. once i replaced the tail light buld, the blinker is back to normal AND MY ABS WARNING LIGHT HAS NOT BEEN ON SINCE!!
??

The last time my ABS light came on only after driving awhile the actual sensor was shot. Unfortunately this is a $300 bearing/sensor combo.

Please note that while the light is on the system will default to off. You will have NO ABS.

on the rear hubs, sometimes the cap that holds the abs contact comes loose. If it does the distance or angle it sits at can cause the light to come on. Had that happen when I was taking my rear discs off once.

I had this same problem.... my abs fuse was popping in and out when I went over bumps... just needed to click it in all the way.
